@s.majstorovic5598 Жыл бұрын
The motor pool of the Marshal of Yugoslavia contained 85 luxury vehicles, besides these MBZs, there were Rolls Royce's, Cadillacs and the such. They were used not only by President Tito but also by the highest Yugoslav political functionaries, as well as visiting foreign heads of state, and Tito would receive as many as up to 20 foreign statesmen each year. All of these cars were purchased, owned and maintained by the government of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, some were even personal gifts to President Tito from foreign statesmen, who knew he had a love for cars and basically all things mechanical. He worked as a mechanic and test driver in a Mercedes-Benz factory as a young man before the First World War, and he would sometimes come to the motor pool of the Guard to visit and even work with the men maintaining these vehicles. He also drove them himself as often as he could find an opportunity, mostly driving visiting statesmen around the Adriatic Island of Vanga, where his personal residence was.

Tito was not really a dictator in a sense like all these other leaders you mentioned. Yes, he was a lifelong president in a single party state, but outside first few years after WW2 when his secret police arrested and liquidated leaderships of nationalist Chetnik and Ustasha movements and their unashamed followers, life in Yugoslavia was free and relatively good. People could regularly buy cars, wear western style clothes, listen to rock and roll and other American music, obtain passports to go out of the country, practice their religion even LGBT people weren't persecuted in former Yugoslavia, knowing that multiple public figures in the 1970s were openly gay. Tito's period was the most peaceful, prosperous, progressive, cultured and financially stable time for large majority of Yugoslav population.

@@trongnghiachu1977 Serbia and other countries that came after Yugoslavia went significantly backwards in that way after the wars of the 1990s and rise of nationalism backed up by 3 different religions. Period of late 1960s to early Post-Tito years of early 1980s was the most socially progressive time in our history with multiple famous LGBT people enjoying high status in Yugoslav society, such as, for example : Jovan Kolundžija, violinist, gay man, Lepa Mlađenović, professor and intellectual, lesbian, Himzo Polovina, Bosnian sevdah singer, gay man, Jovan Ćirilov, theatre critic, gay man, Mira Trailović, theatre director, lesbian, Oliver Mandić, singer, occasional transvestite, Sonja Savić, actress, hinted to be bisexual, there were even cases of transsexual people appearing here and there in the 1973-1989 period who, due to lack of local medical knowledge, received support from their communities. Such is the story of Yugoslavia's first diagnosed transsexual, Sonja Džepina, in 1972-1973, who got part of her surgery cost covered by the collective effort of her labour union due to it "costing more than a new Stojadin" (Zastava 101, Yugoslavia's most popular family car) and her ticket to London and back paid by the Yugoslav Airlines.

Your figures for horsepower and torque are a little confused because different countries use different measures and metrics. So my 6.3 had 300hp and 434 foot pounds. But you see different measures in part because there were different compression ratios and 2 different blocks. The fuel injection system owes it's design to WW2 where it was developed for aircraft. And yes a 6.3 as the nose rears under hard acceleration can sound like a bomber taking off. Mercedes also made 2 2 door coupe versions of the 600! Parts today are hard to find and extremely expensive. However these cars were extremely well made and if well serviced are capable of well over 1 million kilometres. You never replace switches etc on these cars. They literally last forever if looked after.
