2008 Mercedes Benz E350 with an a/c system not working. Non-recall suction side a/c hose internal failure is the cause. Low side readings of 60 psi or higher. Mercedes Benz is aware of this failure.

Nicola, Thank you for making this! And THANKS for figuring this out! We just had our 2008 wagon in the shop for air-conditioning issues. I started to drive the car home and I thought to myself it’s not cold enough. I drove it a little bit more and didn’t get much colder so I turned around. Our non-dealer Mercedes mechanic had it for another few days and could not find anything wrong with it. He went over with us every single thing that he had done. Since I know that they knew what they were doing I couldn’t question them. They did the right thing. And I knew that I wasn’t crazy. So I thought to myself there has got to be something else… I kept on thinking that. After a couple of research I ran into your video and I cannot thank you enough. They have the part on order and we’re glad to have a found out about the mystery. Thank you again!

I hope it works out for you. Just remember your mechanic should have seen an unusual reading on the low side of the a/c system. That's the dead giveaway. It should be around 30 to 40 PSI on the low side. Once you fill the system to its proper level it should work. If you're still having problems. Check you blend doors in the HVAC system to make sure they are working correctly.

I had that exact same problem on a 2008 GL450. On mine, that hose runs very close to the exhaust manifold, which may have contributed to its premature failure. When I replaced it, I added some header insulation around the hose and secured with some stainless wire ties I found at NAPA.

In case this helps any one... and please, read this to the end before starting any of it, if you wish to try this (at your own risk), as it does work, but needs to be done a certain way, and with 2 people. I used long, thin centre punches to slowly push in the pins (at 3 and 9 o clock on the coupler), which made 2 more pins (at 6 and 12 o clock) push out of the coupler. I pushed in (not too hard) until I saw that the pins at 6 and 12 o clock weren't coming out any more. Then, while I held the pins in, my awesome mechanic (admittedly this worked because of his experience...and this is the tricky bit) used long needle nose pliers to lightly grab the pipe just before it enters the coupler, and slowly and gently wiggled the pipe out of the fitting. Then the part I actually found difficult was getting the 6mm allen key bit onto the lower bolt and breaking it free with the tight space I had, right next to the hot engine and exhaust manifold (if you also do this with a hot engine, I believe you too, will burn your hands. Lol). I hope this helps someone. But please remember to be slow and gentle when pushing in the pins, and wiggling the pipe out.

Mercedes from RICHMOND quote for my 2012 CL550 with 33,000 Km for this issue. To replace the AC hose, we will need to access the AC Compressor. The job involves dropping the subframe as there is limited space. Germany parts are 2-3 weeks away. We can release the vehicle & return for the work when the parts arrive. In the picture, the AC hose have condensation, that is normal condensation as the AC hose is cold. All manuals tell you to have the can in vapor mode (right side up). However, I hold it upside down to speed up the process of getting freon into the system. Large amounts of freon in liquid form can possibly damage the compressor, so I'm adding small amounts. I have never had any issues with this method myself.

Not on the manifold gauges but on my odb2 scanner it reads 116 psi when ac is running and 75 psi when ac is off. Scanner does not say if this is the low or high pressure line reading. In my case the ac is cold after adding a 12oz can of r134a. But the fan problem is a mystery that I’m trying to fix. No, the readings would be different. The collasped hose would strictly be a performance issue. Showing a high reading on the low side. While a leak would just show up as low readings.

@@InitechAuto thanks again. I was looking for a work around if possible though. Its just a time restraint, since I can just get someone to do it next week if I'm able to free up the time for that appointment. The delivery cost and time (to Canada) would mean waiting for this tool to arrive wouldn't be feasible for me. But looking at the images I have of the connector and the tool, it does seem like you just need to pinch the white tabs in and up, and then pull out the hose (I've used almost similar fittings in plumbing). Of course if someone with experience says thats a big no with this fitting, then I won't try it

Hi 2008 GL550 here, got a new compressor 1 year ago. do you think it's part of the routine to change this hose too? Now, AC sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Got vacuumed and recharged like 4 times in the past 2 months. Only 1.2 lbs R134a left while total should be 2.7 lbs. There should be a leak somewhere but one mechanic said it could be "hose saturation, not a leak" due to the expansion valve got stuck. They added dye bu quick looks did not find much (was traveling with a trailer). I'm new to this but the gauge readings seem not consistent. Sometimes it's 115 low and 200 high. sometimes it's 40 low and 125 high, etc. Can you point me to the right direction? Appreciate your help!

Sounds like you have a leak they have not found. "hose saturation, not a leak" That's a good one! Hose saturation is a leak. I would replace the hose in the video If you have one. If your pressures are still erratic I would try a new expansion valve.

@@InitechAuto thanks for your quick response. Yes I was planning to replace this hose and expansion valve. BTW I just checked the pressures again and now, static 100 low 85 high. When engine on AC on, 96 low 85 high. Turn off AC, wait a bit, turn AC on, the low went down to about 90, them climbs back to 96ish quickly. Ambient temp was like 85-90F. I did get a recharge yesterday, and it worked for only 20 minutes. Is this an indication of a bad compressor? Or some sensor prevented the compressor to run?
