My boss came by around a month ago, one button was completely off, and the other one was pushed into the controller chip on his key fob. But I managed to solder on those tiny buttons back on. I have the AiXun T3A soldering station with the 245 handle, and I used my android phone camera as a microscope to zoom in. 😅That feeling you get when you fix something never gets old.

I have never done nor have any intention of ever doing any micro soldering. Yet I admire the skill and watch every video.

i would like to try it, but i'm not going to buy all the equipment just to try it and find out nahh this is not for me.

@@supersilverhazeroker You can get the most inexpensive stuff on the market, it's enough for a beginner ;) Soldering iron with a thin tip, a iron tip cleaner, great quality flux (Amtech or so). Optionally a hot air station for BGA/QFN and some wick to clean solder real good. You can get all of that under hundred dollars, it won't be great but it's enough! At the end of the day you need steady hands. A microscope is some great comfort for a professional and necessary for the most difficult jobs like fixing HDMI traces or so. You can still have fun at any level! If you like it you can move on to high quality equipment like what Northridge Fix does sell ;)

That was a lot of flux getting inside of that tact switch.

Another great job. I don't think the layman realises just how small the components you work with really are. Great skills as usual.

I'm an automotive locksmith and yes we have testers. They test the frequency and the IR. Xhorse just came out with a new one which I have. This one can also check the signal from the door and ignition. Pretty cool stuff.

Easier and quicker to remove the component next to where the ir emitter goes surely? No risk of damaging anything with heat gun too

I would call this video "I don't want to use low melt solder" even though it would be easier for this technique.

If you were hard pressed and no air station you could have lifted the near by component and used a iron but extra work doesn’t get it done quicker 😊

@@CiderPang27It's barely "work". Removing the switch and using 63/37 by hand would take me the same time as him setting up everything for hot air

I did not realize that (until now in this video) if you use a sharpie to mark a chip, the letters/numbers on the chip will be more readable :)

Once the circuit board is removed from the case on these fobs getting them to work again is problematic... It's caused by the board not touching the terminals correctly in new cases... Putting them back into their old cases doesn't work well either

I don't think they necessarily fail more than other comprable key fobs. It is just that they are so pricey to replace, it makes economical sense to repair them vs getting a new one.
