I have a 1979 450SL that's original in great shape with 72,000 miles. I was told by my mechanic and others as well that these cars are made to be driven and shouldn't be sitting still for too long or just taken for very short trips. I agree with everyone else that it is a lovely car but I wonder about what surprises might be in store for the next owner. Of course those tires should be replaced ASAP if they are truly the original ones. Even with only 10,800 miles on them, age also is an important factor with tires, usually around 12 years max.

The owners of these cars have no problem spending thousands upon thousands to keep them in perfect shape, when I was really young I worked at a Mercedes garage in a part of California where a lot of wealthy people retire and/or spend the Winter, I used to be astounded at the repair tickets for cars that didnt have many miles on them, just sitting most of the time in the garages of peoples Winter homes.

I had fewer 450SL the problem with this type Mercedes is too much power ,three gears there is no fourth gear. They have a heating issue, But it's definitely clean
