Mercedes Benz Replace Steering Angle Sensor - M112 W203 C320 C-Class

I'll show you how to replace the steering angle sensor. This is a multi-use video that be used in reference for all the jobs related to steering angle sensor mentioned. The tools, parts, and procedure is all shown. I replaced the steering angle sensor because of the following:
ESP Malfunction
Turn Signal wouldn't turn off (Self-Cancel)
Steering felt a bit stiff
Upon inspection, the steering angle sensor had a crack in it.
You'll need just a few tools:
- Torx T30
- Torx T10
- Flathead Screwdriver
- Breaker Bar with 10mm hex

Thank you for your prompt response. I made such question because I was told by the mechanic tha after the replacement was done a programing was needed. The car I have is a 2005 c230 kompressor. Is this car also included? Thank you in advance.

To be honest, I dont know if there is any difference with the 05 kompressor. I would recommend asking this question at MBworld or benzworld forums, they most likely can give you a more accurate answer (or get a 2nd opinion from another mechanic)

Hello, thank you for showing us this video, I have watched many on this subject yours is very good and simply detailed. Would you be able to give some advice, as I have removed and replaced an indicator switch on my A150, without inserting the red securing plug the sensor moved or rotated on me. I assembled it unknowing its original position. I now have the ESP light on. Is there a way of calibrating it with diagnostics or or do I need to open it up and do it manually? Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Declan, I would love to help you but I don't actually know the exact fix for the ESP light. You might just be able to remove the steering wheel and re-align the steering column sensor manually

The video was great.I was doing this to change the wiper indicator stalk I had problems removing the steering wheel nut even with a 15 inch breaker bar and then trying my longer torque wrench. Mu cheap Parkside impact drill had no joy. I was trying to unscrew it anti-clockwise which seems to fit with your video. If this is wrong please advise.

My w203 c320 ESP not available sign on along with visit workshop. funny thing is sometimes the visit work sign is off but only the "Not available sign" is on and i can still turn on and off the esp that displays on and off too. I brought it to the shop but they can't seem to figure it out. Is there a step by step way of finding the problem cause i know it covers a large area on this.

The process of putting the steering wheel back on is quite time-consuming. Is there any possibility to check whether everything we have done and is correct, or the angle of setting is as it should be, before putting the steering wheel back on.

Hi we have a c200 w204 with similar problem, can I ask where you sourced the part as we can only get the whole stem and not the sensor alone.. cheers

i'm not too familiar with the c200 however my recommendation would be to call the dealership and get the part # for your steering angle sensor. if you have taken apart your steering wheel, you should be able to locate the part # directly on the steering angle sensor as well. from there you should be able to search the internet for that specific part, try ebay, autohausaz, pelicanparts, fcpeuro, rmeuropean, or even your local salvage yard for the specific part. hope that helps!

I also had trouble with a SRS fault afterwards (which was not there before) though the airbag was reconnected though I forgot to push the clips in. I think the steering sensor may have moved as it alignment seemed to change though the nut itself did not move. This fault cannot be reset by a cheap ODB2 so please be careful.

Thank you,very good explaned.Question:On my ml320 from time to time it show ESP inopoerative mesagges etc.and go into Sport mode with little bit rough drive but after a while its gone,and everything is normal,sometimes ESP stay for one day,sometimes i get a message one on a month.Official MB service didnt find any eror code on steering angle/wheel sensors,so any ideas? Thnak you in advance.

There IS a bolt under the column that needs to be loosened BEFORE you remove the steering angle sensor...AND...that is NOT the hole you look for the yellow marker in. It's the one at 2 o'clock that you circled. You circled a brass rivet. Geez ! Be careful who you take instruction from folks!!!

That bolt holds the turn signal switch assembly to the steering column, why should one undo it before removing steering angle sensor??
