Well I work everyday at Hino trucks assembly plant and I enjoy every single minute I spend doing it, driving trucks, repairing mechanical failures, inspecting to the last bolt and nut, I can't imagine doing anything else, is a pleasure and I dare to say workers on this video could feel the same as me.

If your refering to the Unimog being plentiful in California, you should think before you say anything, Unimogs are rare to come across in California and throughout the US as only a few were ever sold. Your jeep may be able to do those things you listed, but an Unimog will still conquer trails without sacrificing comfort and reliability and do it straight from the factory.

I think the unimog will do the same - just its fuel tank is much larger. By the way you are comparing two different things - the end utility for one purpose which is worse for the unimog. But its not a long range transporter - its a heavy duty workhorse, and as such will pull loads and carry weights that will break your truck.

Gotta disagree with that post. Pick up trucks have a use and they are not weak or underdeveloped in any way. They are the way they are to best suit the consumer. There isn't anything from Europe that can compete with say a ford F-350 super-duty in its category. If you want to compare vehicles like the UNIMOG do it against vehicles like: Oshkosh's M-ATV HEMTT and LVSR, or the M35 truck.

Unimogs can't do intense approach and departure angles on small trails plus it's to wide and tall (like a full-size American pickup),narrow light vehicles are best for narrow trails

There are tons of Unimogs and 4WD VW transporter trucks where I live>>>>during the 1980s it was fairly easy to import a "Grey Market" car/truck to the States(and many did) until "authorized franchises" of well known Marks and scrupulous sellers that did the conversions screwed it up for everyone. My Jeep MJ has AC,power steering,etc>>>.I can take my boat to LA and back from the Bay Area on one full tank of diesel,try that with a Unimog that weighs several thousand pounds more

sorry about that, wrong post....but anyway....an American pick-up truck outfitted with lockers and a high pressure TD is a much better value, Our pick-ups have all the creature comforts of a home if optioned right...or can come in the most basic form if so desired...and as far as space inside...they make a Unimog look like a Beetle. Euro big rigs are just so dinky and far more expensive compared to American Semis.

Unimogs are not really meant to compare to pickup's. Unimog is a great work vehicle and tool, goes much worse trails as totally standard than any pickup truck does, has space, load capability, engine that is built to be durable and easy to maintain. American pickup trucks are built more like cars nowadays. Cheap components, they last 1/10th of the mileage that real trucks do. But I agree about the value for money thing, if you want a cheap vehicle to go drive at moab for fun, a pickup is good.

I know what they are and we have many where I live in Ca. It's more or less a boutique thing to own. And on the 4x4 trails (like the Rubican and Moab) they can be seen there too, but they just clog up the trail. My 122inch long wheelbase Jeep MJ with a Peugeot XD3T turbo diesel with an extra divorced Nissan transfer case is lower geared than the Unimog and gets up and out of the way over rocks etc. Unimog is like a NATO thing..not practical
@ElZamo9211 жыл бұрын
Tell me, can your super diesel Peugeot-Nissan-Jeep pass the Rubicon trail with a ton and a half of stuff in the on the back? Can it cross a river 5 foot deep without having any trouble? no? i thought so. Which big ass Mericn' truck be equipped with an infinity of add-ons to transform it from a wheat seeder to a snowplow to a train locomotive? none? I thought so to. Don't get me wrong, I like Ford trucks, but they are made for a totally different purpose, even if they both are for work.

main reason why US plants have safety drones hovering around is for accountability, dont want someone suing the company for hearing loss now do you. got fired form one place because i didn't have my ear plugs with me in the break room, 0 tolerance rules that say you must have ear plugs on your person at all times on the property, even the grass lot across the street. A $15,000 4WD Straight/Turbo Diesel Kubota Tractor will do all the "farm work" you just mentioned>>>nickles/dimes on the dollar compared to a Unimog as similarly equipped. People are irrationally-smitten with the RR/BMW/Benz,etc badge>>>they will throw all rationality aside for the sake of a 3 Pointed Star,etc. for better products and all for a lot less.
@505stealth11 жыл бұрын
The Unimogs from the early 80s had 240D straight Diesels in them and they were/can only climb grades that are moderated(geared as low they are).Simple fact is,a Unimog then and now needs large trails to get through>>>where a Samurai/Jeep can easily traverse>>>and with several thousand pounds much less weight than a Unimog. Unimog was engineered (as a WElFARE project) for mostly UN duty quasi roadsHardly anyone buys Unimogs because they are just crude,slow,noisy and cost way too much>>BAD VALUE
@505stealth11 жыл бұрын
you just made a hypocrite out of yourself by mentioning "modified" Unimogs>>>>I've put about $8,000 (including used purchase price) in my Jeep MJ>>>>that includes Dana 44s/lockers front and rear,control arms,pitman arm, soft coils,XD3T engine/transmission/ additional Nissan transfer case.Mine might be modified, but its been running for decades for cheap>>>>even pulled a 40ft sunken Chris Craft out of the Sacramento River(up a boat ramp) with it. My gearing is 118 to 1 in first gear
@505stealth11 жыл бұрын
one can buy a tractor for a lot less $>>>and tractors can do 30+ in high range>
