Sprinter 4x4 Traction test with trailer note: The Sprinter 4x4 has no mechanical locker; it's only the ESP that will brake the spinning wheel. But you have to be constant with the throttle. Keep it steady and let the ESP work. It's more an AWD system rather than a true 4x4. In the sand, remove ESP and put it into low gear. I have found a 1st generation Sprinter with a 4x4 badge on it. It also has buttons for rear diff lock and center diff lock. How is this possible? Accoring to all info I can find, this was not available for the 1st generation Sprinter. Not in the U.S., and not here in Europe.

ESP applies brakes to keep the van from flipping over while turning hard. ASR is for traction like in the video.

This would be excellent in the backcountry. On unimproved roads. In the mush and the slush. But I wouldn't take it off-road. Too top-heavy, no skid plates, and no locking axles.
