Mercedes-Benz Viano - How to remove / install the headliner | W639

Before removing the headliner of a Viano W639, make some space.
Remove the second seat row and fold down the rear seats.
Pay attention to cleanliness. Cover the floor and seats properly.
Start with the "Overhead control panel" control unit.
Use a long wedge to remove the plastic cover on the right.
Release both mounting clips.
Disconnect the four electrical connectors.
Have a cordless screwdriver and screwdriver ready.
Detach the grab handle above the driver and front passenger door respectively.
Fold out the caps and remove both screws.
Remove the sun visor on both sides.
The sun visor has a mirror light.
Before removing the sun visor, the electrical connector must first be disconnected.
Remove the lamp for the left and right vanity mirror using a long wedge.
Disconnect the electrical connector before removing the lamp.
Detach the bracket for the sun visor.
Fold open the cap and remove the screw.
Do not forget the second bracket on the front passenger side.
Remove the trim of the left and right A-pillar.
Using a long wedge, unclip the trim starting at the top.
On vehicles with a driver and front passenger windowbag:
Remove the screw from the check strap.
Tighten the screw to 4 Nm when reinstalling.
Remove the upper trim on the left and right B-pillar.
Then detach the front headliner.
Remove the cover on the seat belt guide bracket and then remove the screw.
This screw must be tightened to 30 Nm when reinstalling.
Using a long wedge, unclip the trim at the bottom and pull off downwards.
On the inside, disconnect the connector for the push button of the electric sliding door.
Carefully loosen the front headliner.
The headliner is attached to the body with velcro fasteners.
Loosen the velcro fasteners at these points and remove the headliner to the front.
An overview of all removed parts:
The overhead control panel control unit,
the grab handles, the sun visors,
the lamps for the vanity mirrors,
the brackets for the sun visors,
the A-pillar and B-pillar trim sections.
Continue with the rear headliner.
Start with the grab handle with interior lamp.
Remove the two screws and disconnect the connector.
Remove the three other grab handles accordingly.
Be careful when detaching the rear entertainment unit.
Carefully unclip the caps so that the front is not scratched.
Remove the two screws on the left and right.
The front panel can now be easily slid forwards.
The cover can now be pulled down with a delicate touch.
Work carefully to avoid breaking off the mounting clips.
Loosen and remove the last four screws.
Tighten the screws to a torque of 4 Nm when reinstalling.
Disconnect the two electrical connectors on the right-hand side.
Unclip and remove the control unit for the entertainment unit.
Remove the control and operating unit for the rear air conditioning and heater.
Remove the operating switch with a long wedge and disconnect the two connectors.
Also remove the second control and operating unit on the left-hand side.
Remove the two screws of the luggage net bracket.
Only then can the four rear air vents be removed.
Loosen the front air vent using a long wedge and then remove towards the front.
The two air vents on the left and right respectively are located next to the detached grab handles.
Then remove the two coat hooks on the C-pillar.
First remove the cover in order to remove the screw.
If the vehicle does not have sliding doors, the hooks are mounted on the B-pillars.
Use a long wedge to remove the luggage compartment lamp from the headliner and disconnect the connector.
Detach the dome lamp for the Parktronic warning indicator from the roof.
Disconnect the connector.
Remove the two luggage net carriers on the left and right of the luggage compartment.
The trim of the B-pillar is already detached here.
Continue with the trim of the left and right C-pillar.
Unclip the trim sections at the bottom using a long wedge.
The trim is plugged into a guide at the top, so remove it downwards.
Remove the trim of the C-bow.
Disconnect the electrical connector of the sliding roof switch on the inside of the trim.
Loosen the door seal on the luggage compartment door.
Note: Only loosen it until the left and right D-pillar trim is exposed.
Then detach the trim of the D-pillars.
Unclip the trim at the bottom using a long wedge.
Remove it downwards out of the guide.

The grab handles with interior lamp, the rear entertainment unit,
the control and operating unit for the rear air conditioning and heater,
the air vents, the coat hooks, the luggage compartment lamp,
the warning indicator of the Parktronic system, the luggage net brackets,
