Mercedes recommend in the factory manual to flush the system with citric acid powder mixed with water, I tried it and works very well, and it's also very cheap. For the expansion tank I used muriatic acid to clean it, and it came out almost like new.

It's worth mentioning you can drain the engine block of coolant also. For OM603, cooling system takes 10L of coolant. Personally, I've used Zerex G-05. After draining the block, you need to fill the block with upper radiator hose. Once that is full, you can fill expansion tank. Thanks for the video 🙂 I love the scenery and the chicken! 😃

I flushed my rad about 25 gallons.....using only distilled water.... And fill max heat and drain. Filled with zerex g5... Thanks for the video...

Thank you for your comment. No, it is NOT normal. Maybe it is your brake booster, brake fluid or air in the system

Isn't blue G11 antifreeze better suited for these old engines from nineties than newer red G12?

Thank you for your comment. I have asked for Mercedes and this is what they have given me. On the list of brands listed on the bottle is clearly indicated MB 325.3 organic -37ºC / 145ºC. If the engine blow up, I will demand the shop. 😂. Happy new year 2024

@@MercedesBenzW124 that's interesting because I was specifically told by a guy who had worked for Mercedes that classics should not use red antifreeze as it causes some chemical reactions with metals used in those older diesel engines like OM601, 602 or 603. I'm very aware Mercedes says it's OK to use G12 instead of G11/G48 in older engines, but not tu use G11 instead of G12 in newer engines (after 2014.).
