Superb review! I bought my fist car, a W124 300CE, around one year ago and I absolutely love it. The looks, the simplicity of fixing things and not to forget the build quality! Every time I take her out for a drive I can see myself back in the 90s. Too bad its winter in my country, can't wait to take her out of hibernation in spring :)

I am the very lucky owner of a Euro-spec C124 300CE-24 Sportline with five-speed Getrag gearbox. The lower ride height, stiffer suspension and quick ratio steering really set this 124 apart as a driver’s grand touring car. It is everything you say in this fine video.

I own a poverty 300e from 1987, cloth seats, no sunroof, electric windows only on front places, 5 speed manual, but what a great car they refuse to die and are great for daily use
@StratmanII2 ай бұрын
Did you say "300E"? That's interesting. In Malaysia where I live, it was possible to find a base model 200E W124 with a manual transmission and no-frills interiors, except for having power windows in front. The W124 models from 260E onwards all came with 4-speed automatic transmissions and all the luxury trimmings. A 300E would have been classified as a high end model and it would have had electric leather seats, faux wood paneling on the dashboard. Locally assembled W124s also don't come with sunroof as we live near the equator, where it's hot and humid all year round. A sunroof costs more and local buyers won't pay for a feature that's useful only in temperate countries. I've seen the odd W124 with a sunroof but they were second hand cars imported from the UK.
@irondark94712 ай бұрын
@StratmanII yes mine is from 87" imported from Deutschland,In the year my car was manufactured there were no classes yet, my car is a 300 e w124, later called E class and the number would be equivalent to the engine, here in Europe it was an expensive car for the time, it was imported in the 90s and my father got it for free in 2010 we only had to repair it, but even if it doesn't have extras it is a good ship

Just acquired a 1990 W124 230E (facelift) in original white, and rare Brazil Brown interior. Abandoned by the previous owner for over a year in a sheltered garage, the car needs some work but the interior is generally still in very good condition, and the exterior will require some intensive car spa treatment. I got a 2000 W210 E240 (2.6 V6) before but I still couldn't resist the W124, my childhood dream car.

I have a 1990 300E that looks "new" but age takes its toll and the toll costs $. Be prepared to pay to repair mother time's ailments particularly valve seals and guides which are a common problem. I recently had a choice to take her to the bone yard or take her for a heart transplant. I could not do the former so I sent her to a German auto repair garage 80 miles away (closest which would do the work). It ended costing me $4,800.00 for a valve job, motor mounts, oil pan, and misc. I made the right decision. I saved her from destruction. Purchased it for $2,500.00 and put > $12,000.00 to give her new life. She should now outlast me.

The 260 is the smoothest engine in the W124 line. Lucky to have one with such low mileage! Hopefully not equipped with the automatic climate control (as so many export versions of the 6 cylinder models were) - that sucks even when everything is working, but it WILL give you very costly problems.

She did however require mechanical work to get her running perfectly and yes it turned out to be quite expensive. In the end it was worth it as I enjoy driving around Phoenix Arizona with the top down as often as possible. I enjoy driving my A124 just slightly more than I do my new Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

My 1st Mercedes i bought w124, so much memories of the car with it's longevity and simple mechanically and daily reliable car. I missed the car especially the way door closes, a solid 'thud'. Now currently i owned w210 replacing the w124. Although a bit quieter it's also a daily drive car and reliable if you regular maintain it.
@HLClassics3 жыл бұрын
The W210 is dependable if maintained well. But it doesn't have the same feel of the W124. Later model years had the unfortunate privilege of being manufactured during the Chrysler years which didn't do any favours to the W210.
