Mercedes Benz W164 ML running board installation walkthrough DIY

this video shows my process of installing an after market running board kit on a Mercedes ML 350 W164. should apply to all W164 chassis vehicles.

Thanks for this video. It helped me a to lot install the same kit from which I bought from ebay. However, chinese engineering on a german engineering is always a challenge. The boards 5 pin holes were off and I needed to re-drill 3 of them and the bottom plastic covers holes were off and I had to drill them all. Also had to do some trimming in the front and rear wheel section.

thx. Will save me much time when doing this for my wife's car. Kit was $250. there are kits that are all plastic and ones with metal support like the one in this video. opted for metal one for the same $$.

it should work fine -- its just a question of how much effort and modification it requires which is why I recommend OE boards.

Thank you Erik! Just got my ML, agonized over the purchase. Had a Lexus LX470 before, but it was totaled in an accident and I wanted a little better mpg. Looked at some RX400h and RX350s but opted to follow my heart, not my head, lol.

brushed? this video should be close to the same as any running board set for a W164, but it is most relevant and useful for the genuine MB parts and the clones of those boards (the ones I installed)

Thank you for doing this video. I just installed the exact same kit for someone today. It sure is a shame they didn't spend a little more time to make the kit fit without modification . I ran into the exact same issues you did!

they definitely do not. 163s had tubular, non integrated bars

I'd advise against them on the 163 due to rust unfortunately.. OEM though if you're going to do it.

judging by how long this took me, at standard shop labor rates, I'd say around 350-400 dollars. I charged this customer $250 and I would never do it again for that amount.
