If you have Lewis Hamilton, you don’t need George Russell as the other driver. They should have kept Valteri a little longer. I know you have to plan for the future but the team has to provide a high performance competitive car. Now Ferrari has a championship quality driver and Mercedes doesn’t. If Mercedes had given them both the same advanced parts on their cars, it would have helped Russell become a better driver when Lewis left. Instead they tried to manufacture the illusion that George is the best driver. If they felt that way then why did they limit Lewis’ car. Mercedes hasn’t had a good car for 2 1/2 - 3 years. That is why Lewis exercised his escape clause in his contract. Remember, Lewis fired Mercedes and the one left behind in a break up suffers the most.

Finally, someone is bringing this up! I noticed that too! It seems they used setups and parts that fit Georges driving style, but not Hamilton’s during the ENTIRE season. Moreover, Toto even said in the interview after qualifying that THIS TIME they had chosen a setup that suited LH's driving style. In other words, all season he had to deal with the setup they gave him, while with Russel they worked together to favor him in this way. Now, I understand why hamilton said that he will not out qualify George this season. Finally, Fred Vasseur hinted that the relationship between Mercedes and Hamilton was no longer quite right and that he never doubted LH speed.

Well when a driver is leaving after the season no team is going to make it a priority to set up the cars and team around the driver who is leaving rather than the driver you know you will continue to work with.

I love Lewis and wish it wasn’t that way but just cause they had previous success they aren’t going to hurt the chance at future success just to be sentimental. With the zero pods Merc was second in the championship. With the rushed side pods they finished 4th. They needed to stick with their zero pods and upgrade until their real times matched their simulator data. Instead they decided to listen to a driver who has no clue when it comes to aerodynamics and ditch their concept to start from scratch.

But there are some indications that Mercedes will probably become much better in 2025. The biggest sign is the fact that they managed to find out what makes their development go awry is their wind tunnel that doesn't replicate real track and real world situations. They found this mid season, just before their win in Silverstone. So there is a chance that they can bring back the zero pod design for next season. But it will be very risky

You've got it right on the money. What Toto and the Merc team did this year with SLH was all pure business, and SLH knew that. When he announced that he would leave the Mercs for Ferrari, Toto knew that SLH would become their real life guinea pig for testing experimental parts during races to be used in 2025. What irritated SLH was that it was done in an extreme disproportional manner relative to George. The final result is that Toto got what he wanted, but the adverse effect will be that many [Merc] fans will migrate to Ferrari next year. Not just bc they are SLH fans, but also the injustice they feel Toto and Merc have inflicted onto SLH.

I listened to,this video with great interest because my son and I have been saying the exact same for last season and the whole of this one. Lewis was left pondering what the f**k is the difference between FP1 to qualifying when the performance was exceptionally and the qualifying comes along and the car is a bag of shit. Then it changes so he gets further forward in qualifying only to find that race day the car is once again s**t. Disappointing his loyal fan base. So my closing comments is Mercedes management is to a driver who has been a loyal servant for that past twelve years you should be ashamed of yourself it’s as bad as the corruption going on within the FIA.

Your analysis is right on point. My belief is that Toto has been the main enemy of Hamilton for years now. Giving Rosberg Hamilton’s engineers and staff years ago to help him beat Hamilton. The look on Niki Lauda’s face staring directly at Toto after Hamilton lost a race years ago from a team decision. Hamilton telling them that the development of the car was going the wrong way and what way it should go. Them dismissing his input, then later after horrendous results saying he was right. Him moving to Mercedes, when they were an ok at best team when he moved and him getting them so many championships should be enough to earn some respect, but none has been given.

The really interesting question is how good George really is? Because so far this means that Russel’s performance vs Lewis is all a sham and princess Russel should probably be more humble than he is! Maybe we will never know. What made me suspicious was the fact that Lewis quite often went well in the FP sessions, only to suffer badly in qualifying. Even worse were some of the, frankly insulting, race strategies that Mercedes enforced upon Lewis - such as starting him on the soft tyres from 3rd grid slot in Singapore - that defied logic and actually made the team look stupid.

Also understandable, I never understood why Lewis announced his switch to Ferrari in the beginning of the season. It didn't seem like that would end well, but the closing races for sure told the story. Toto protected the team the best way he knew how. Hold back upgrades and setup insights to keep them from going to Ferrari. Sucks but that had to be expected.

Spa sealed it for me, they told Lewis to do steady laps knowing fine well he had plenty of pace in the car and did not tell him what George was doing, if they had told him he would have passed GR for the win, Karma prevailed and Merc screwed themselves out of a 1-2 just to try and get GR the win..... ...I knew for definite after that race that Merc were going to do anything they could to ensure that GR would finish ahead. Russell will NEVER win a WDC, hes not got it in him.

Mercedez's behaviour has been poor since 2021. Then it was not up to Hamilton to contest that decision but Toto's, which he did pathetically. Everyone claiming that toto and merc had no choice is wrong. They had a choice but chose to give slh44 a 1+1 contract. No self respecting multiple f1 champion would accept that. Plus yeah prioritizing gr63 is one thing messing around with car setup after that car was fast in the practice sessions is another. Changing engineodes between practice and quali is also outside of prioritizing staying driver for leaving driver. Leaving driver being 4 tenths up on the grid in austin sq3 then being nowhere in sprint racecand gp quali is also outside the box of prioritizing gr63 over slh44.

There is a fact that Lewis has been using a different car than Russell since 2022. And Lewis' deal with Ferrari was not revealed until the beginning of the 2024 season. So, it doesn't make sense. And it's not like Vettel or other drivers' transfers. This is all personal behavior of toto wolff. Obviously people who attack Hamilton have racism issues. I have found this problem for many years. So much so that I don't pay too much attention to the race anymore. Because the FIA's manipulation problem is still there. The rules are still unstable. This has been going on for 2014. Spain 2014 watch Lewis blitz FP1 and FP2, then struggle in FP3, Quali and the race. Mercedes changed Lewis's set up. I am also convinced this happened for Baku 2016, Lewis was the ONLY one not to struggle in Free practise come the race he struggled, qualified 10th and struggled through the race to 5th in a championship winning car. Notice something with 2021, one crash with Russell and Bottas, Mercedes all of a sudden had no money for proper upgrades at all. This is not new for Hamilton, they really did him bad the year they wanted Rosberg to win the Championship!. Rosberg had nothing go wrong with his car the entire season, but Lewis was completely SABOTAGED the whole way until Rosberg got so far ahead it was settled. You're so correct. The way they treated Lewis throughout 2024 was appalling! After everything he's done for them, and helped them with, it was a slap in the face! Of course, we knew after Monaco this would happen, but it's the level of dishonesty about it that makes me so angry! Toto accusing the fans of being conspiracy theorists when it was so obvious that changes were made to the car between practice and qualifying! Even SkyF1 commented that they'd seen the mechanics stripping down his car between practice and Quali, when George's wasn't touched, on days when Lewis was top of the timesheets! The biggest problem Merc is their driver line-up. Two drivers who are trying to prove a point, one has to prove to Merc that they made the right call by promoting them to number one driver with the other driver having to prove that they got what it takes to drive as fast as George is but also fast enough to challenge George on track well enough to bring back the symphony of 7744 but goodness me is that not hard to find, think about it Daniel and Max, HAM and Nico, Vettel and Webber. McLaren is making it work with having developed Lando well enough to be a good enough driver to potentially be able to challenge for a Championship. Lando proved this to McLaren by making full use of every advantage and also taking full advantage of racing that went their way be it from Quali or as the race progresses and Oscar appears to be compliant and the team along with Lando show their appreciation for these minor sacrifices Oscar make for his race so that Mclaren can be able to focus on their Goals which they completed too. Merc could end up being good or Kimi might end up as the talent that got bullied to waste by gambling bosses who wish to be the guy with the Eagle's eye.

It would be really stupid for a team not to give the best parts to both cars as they are in a competition for the constructors' championship. I'm sure if they had an uprated part for Russell's car, it wouldn't be too difficult to make another one of those parts for Hamilton. Preferential strategy during the race is a different matter.

FYI. All you F1 fans l guess don’t understand how racing works. Since the 1980’s when the driver of a top team is moving on especially to the competition, that driver is then demoted to 2nd or 3rd driver. He no longer gets new updates on his car, he is no longer involved in any testing of any new technology the tech guys have. That driver is basically there racing test mule.

I understand perfectly well how motorsport works (since the late '60s) and, whilst I agree that it's common sense for the team to give preferential treatment to the continuing driver, some of Mercedes' strategy blunders and daft qualifying procedures that have afflicted Hamilton - not to mention failing to understand their car for three seasons - have only made the team look like a bunch of amateurs. It's not just Hamilton fans wondering what the heck has been going on there.

I've never been a fan of Lewis but, sorry a driver of his stature does not just drop the ball race after race. In the same car I've no doubt Lewis would smoke George. He may have lost a bit of speed on a one lap quali but racing I've no doubt he as fast as he ever was.

If Lewis is leaving the team and they know that why would they not prioritize the driver who is going to still be there next year? They're going to want to design the car around him since he'll be the one still there instead of Lewis. So of course they're going to give the parts to him first so they can incorporate his feedback. What happened to Max in Sprint Qualifying and Sprint Race is what called you got fucked by setup given. The best setup given can make a mid-driver look a GOAT. OTOH, wrong car setup can make a GOAT driver look mid. Max’ Sprint Qualifying and Sprint race results is an example a GOAT driver is looked mid if he gets fucked with setup. Hamilton gets a lot of them nonstop this year. This should explain what happened to Hamilton throughout 24

Merc are a business, so u cant really blame them because its usually the done thing. Merc needed Russell to look better than Hamilton this year to keep shareholders and sponsors interested once Hamilton leaves. RB has done the same thing to Perez. It's common practice in motorsports and has been going on for a long time. Lewis should not have announced hid departure so early in the season. The salary cap plays into the equation too. Why spend money on a lame duck ?
