Mercedes CLK 55 AMG Review! Worth every penny

The CLK 55 was a really rare car to find, especially since they didn't make that many of them. I am so impressed how amazing this car is for an 05 and how amazing it handles together with the beautiful roaring 5.4l V8. If you can ever get your hands on one of them, it is worth every penny.

Bought my 2005 CLK55 AMG cabriolet 3 years ago when we moved from NJ to TX. I brought along a 1975 Alfa Spider but wanted something more reliable for a fun car. First Mercedes I've owned and I am impressed every time I drive it, which is not often enough. More power than I need, smooth ride and quality engineering. Put on Kleeman headers and a "tune" just for something extra. Had 60,000 miles and only need tires and one new rim. Nothing close to it for the price. Great machine!

I enjoy my CLK55. Great car! Fun to drive and plenty fast whilst maintaining that “sleeper” look. Will do about 175mph.

considering how rare these are , & the msrp when new , i consider this amg model a huge value . the ones still running that havent been wrecked are lovingly owned by some pretty lucky ppl . one the last true amg cars , very solid & well built cars ...great review !!

I have a Black on Black 2003 CLK55 AMG and is by far is the best car i have ever owned. Like he says quality, speed, comfort it has it all. It is now 14 years old fully maintained and never winter driven and still looks great. Mercedes AMG for Life. Like he says Pure Driving Pleasure.

I may pick one up this weekend. I owned an E55 that I recently sold. I am wondering if the complaints about built quality - mainly squeaky plastic which tends to break. Have you experienced any cosmetic or non-mechanical issues?

Cant speak for the E55 but the CLK55 AMG is the bomb. No troubles at all. I do not drive this car in the winter. Therefore for a 2003 it still looks new. The paint job on Mercedes is like no other. Hand built engine, quality from bumper to bumper.If you find one accident free with maintenance records in check, and low kilos ( 10,000 per year). I say buy it they are very RARE

I couldn’t agree more, I have a silver 2003 clk 55 AMG, and I’ve had a complete blast with his car so far. At 362 hp and 376ft lbs of torque, it’s plenty of power to send you to flying down any road, especially with the windows down riding the coastline in st. Augustine (Coming from a 18 year old 😂)

Mine's been good to me and I don't abuse it. The engine is also known to be bulletproof. The 0-60 is not bad but the 60-110 is mind blowing how it keeps pushing. If I don't keep an eye on the speedometer I'm doing 100 in no time. Also I suggest people to familiarize with services like oil changes, unless they don't mind spending $200 for an oil change.

just bought one in Australia. New it cost over $180, 000 Aussie ! I picked up my 130,000 km 2003 series for under $20,000 # owners, fulll service history. I'm super pleased to have found one in such great condition. A very rare car in Australia.

Hey man great looking clk! a couple things 1) difficult to get a really nice gain on tune alone- headers and full exhaust play tune is what is going to be a real good gain check it out! 2) If your looking for a more aggressive look from the front you can either paint the I terror headlight housing black or look online for a pair already done. Looks really great! 3) There are a lot of rear bumper conversions for a quad exhaust or you can trim the back a little and just throw an e55 exhaust on very cheap to do. 4) Plenty of people have done steering wheel swaps with the clk63 check it out!

Mmmm that sounds great! Love those CLK's and SLK's! The only thing that needs some love is those headlights. Meguiars makes a "Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration" kit for $40.00 that will do probably 100 sets of headlights and I've personally refinished six different sets of headlights with the kit and it brings them back to crystal clear with minimal effort in about 30 minutes.

You've used the yellow box version with the 2 buff pads, the fine grit paste and the UV liquid and buff wheel? I guess maybe once it gets deep it can't be brought back. I did a headlights on four toyotas and a few dodges and they cleared back up perfectly. Sorry that didn't work for you! Awesome ride! :)

My 2003 cost $204 000 NZ new and still creams anything in its way, I have yet to have anyone take it on at over all distance and combination road dianamics, winding roads and step inclines are its best friend, the braking weight to car ratio is awsome, sure there are cars out their faster at ten times the price, but overall performance economy wise and shear fun hands down you will not beat this car.

2004-2005 best 5 litres engines was build by Mercedes-Benz. I'm driving 2004, E500 which is slightly different class, its 7g tronic, when amg is 5 gear, my E500 not thet fast, but still V8, and much more comfortable of course... But I would only go for CLK55 if it would be convertible. If not, I would upgrade to E55... pointless to go for E63 or CLK63, they breaking very often, not recommending...

Nice review! My father recently bought a clean 2005 CLK55 cabrio, and I had Eurocharged put on Kleemann headers and an ECU/TCU tune. Not massive gains, but it's a beautiful power curve and now sounds nicely angrier. I think its quite slow. Not in any way comparable to a newer AMG. Even a C43 W205 is much faster. So...Its just a nice little CLK with a rather slow V8.

Just bought a 04 clk55 Amg has a lot of torque but in no way fast as I thought it would be owned a XJR it had more power and pick up speed but if course it was all aluminum and supercharged
