I have a CLK 2006, and it's got stuck in 'get you home mode'. Started doing strange things two years ago, switching off and on again restored normal operation for about a year. Then it started again, same thing. Suddenly got worse now locked in some sort of default. Tried to reset it, even worse now!...... 60K miles only, light use. I assume the Transmission Valve Body Plate and Plug have gone wrong. Am I in the right area. If I replace the unit and service the box with fresh oil and filter, will the computer go back to it's original setting. Some advise would be very helpful indeed.

Hi Mark, did you resolve your problem? Mines doing exactly the same thing- would be grateful of any advice! Resetting as per this guy’s video hasn’t worked 😖.

I know this is super late, but to anyone new who reads this, if the reset does not resolve the "limp home" mode, then your transmission needs to be looked at by a qualified mechanical, that would suggest something more serious. The reset 'may' resolve a limp home scenario. I think people tend to forget that the reset is not a fix to actual transmission issues. The reset is technically great for transmissions that are 'already' functional but not optimized to your normal driving behavior. All it does is allow your transmission to "relearn" your driving habits. In doing so, people may notice an immediate improvement of shift smoothness, quickness, etc. If you have an existing transmission issue and do the rest, the issue is still present. Having that said, mercedes are very sensitive to changes ATF level, it may be as simple as that. Other common replacement items for the W209/C209/A209 are the connector adapter, conductor plate, input/output speed sensors, valve body, and God knows what else (lol). Unfortunately, there are other serious issues with W209 vehicles with the M272 engine. The balance shaft sprocket, which MB got sued over royally for using a low grade metal to produce the sproket. This led to major engine overhauls for thousands of people and a class action lawsuit was launched years ago. Depending on where you live, to remediate this problem, it'll cost you anywhere from about $5000-7000 to fix, although the part to replace (of course) is only a small fraction of that cost, it's all labor. You then have the numerous oil leaking issues with w209, all of which I found on my own when I had one. The good thing is, all the parts are cheap and most can do the work themselves.
