Thank you so much this was really informative. I appreciate your videos so much and the information helping me to work on my 68 280 S.. I’m having difficulty figuring out how to install the wide windshield base piece. I don’t wanna have to remove the windshield, but it doesn’t seem to fit and I don’t wanna break it. I spent a lot of time restoring it. It’s Macassar Ebony. Any tips on fitting it in front of the dash without destroying anything would be appreciated. Thank you.!

Hi Stuart. Thank you for the nice comment. As far as the windshield bow. It can be a little nerve racking to remove and install. I actually shaved the two ends ever so slightly less than a 1/4 inch each end. The A pillar covers conceal it so it doesn't matter. The fade line will be a good indicator where you can cut. When you install it does need to be supported while easing it in. It will need to be bent some. Just ease it in a fraction at a time. If you want to get hold of me personally. Shoot me an email at jwright89@sbcglobal.net we can chat in more detail. All the best cheers John.

Hello! How do you remove the top dash wood trim. Please and thank you
@mercedesmaintenance.63393 жыл бұрын
Hi. First remove the speaker grill. Two screws. Then you'll see two more screws attached to brackets that hold the trim. Then you have to remove the A pillar trim covers. both sides of the windscreen. Either screws or clips. If screws can't be seen you have clips. Pull the trim toward inside of the car to un hook clips. (straight back). Then the wood can be VERY CAREFULLY lifted out. It will need to be eased out and bent slightly to remove. Try to support and go slowly its a tight fit. Good luck. Cheers John.

this might be too late but how did you remove the whole wooden dash stretching from the driver side all the way to the glove compartment, thanks
@mercedesmaintenance.63392 жыл бұрын
Yes. The dash is removed in sections. One large section from the drivers side to the glove box. Then glove box lid. then small curved section plus a very slim trim piece below the glove box. Are you wanting to do this for yourself? As I said before it may be a while until I get to my dash. In the meantime, here's an article that may help you get it removed. www.jaimekop.com/108Wood/ If you have any refinishing questions please let me know. Good luck Cheers John.

Very nice, just what I’m looking for. Was the part two ever made doing the veneer in the contours of the dash? Browsed your channel and haven’t came across it.

I haven't made that one yet. I still have some work to do on the support form. It's something I'm looking forward to doing.

@@mercedesmaintenance.6339 ok, that’s a shame. I’ve been looking for several weeks and yours seemed to be the closest I could find to someone bonding veneer to a curved surface. I’m almost at the point where for the average joe, with no vacuum, this can’t be done. I’ve wasted a lot of veneer trying different approaches. I’m actually at the point I’m considering buying a much thicker burl wood maybe 2inch thick) and physically cutting parts out and reforming from scratch as no matter what I do or try to soften the veneer, it’s not following a curve without cracking. I’m sure I’m not the only one trying to do this lol. I’m sure your video showing this would be the first out there :0) Great videos by the way, you have some great stuff on line :0)

Hello I have a 1987 mercedes 300d w124 with the zebrano wood and I would like to have it redone in burl wood. Is this something I could hire you to do or do you have someone you could recommend or refer me to. The rest of the car is nice and low mile for diesel but would be so much nicer with good trim. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and videos. Robert

Great video John! You mention your other channel, what's the name of that one? Also, do the ID cards for a w108 tell what wood finish is on the car?

Hi Alan. My other channel is kzbin.info/door/jHx-59BDCj3ba04neoobZA?view_as=subscriber Its for my business of restoring antique furniture. I have a two part video series on there covering the stripping and refinishing of my w108 windsheild bow. Also i'm not sure if the data card has that info? Maybe ask Pierre hedary. Thanks for watching Alan. Cheers John.
