Mercedes E350 W212 change headlight HID bulb / check left low beam on drivers side Step by Step DIY

In this video Mike Icee will replace the D1S HID xenon headlight bulb malfunction on a Mercedes W212 E350 e-class. The D1S Osram bulb goes for $65 to $100. The message "Check left Low beam" will be displayed on the dash (left = drivers side). You'll see all the steps (step by step) and DIY tools needed. This bulb was used on W212 with Xenon head lamps on 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 E350 cars. Always check with a Mercedes Dealer for proper parts and repair methods. The left side is much more involved than the right side. You may also get the Adaptive high beam assist error once the bulb goes out.

The Xenon bulbs last no more than 150 000 km. Now I have 310 000 km and one is again turning pink ! I had a warning message on the dashboard display long time before the bulb died. A lot of mechanics are liars about the replacement process, no need to remove the front parts of the car. Some have say 3 hours of labour.

My passenger side bulb has over 275K miles (443,000 KM) and is still going strong. I know because I've owned the car since 40K miles.

Mine has the non HID headlamps and the drivers side bulb “can” be replaced from the top without removing the wheel and fender liner but it requires a small and flexible wrist/arm to do it and you have to work blind.

You might be able to make it easier... there is one bolt on radiator support if you undo it you can remove a piece of plastic that runs to washer bottle.

On mine there is a small door fitted inside the fender, if you rotate the wheel so the front points outwards you can open it, reach inside and you end up right at the bulb cap for the main headlamp

So just an update the xenon headlight unit had some corrosion and the headlight module was going out as well, as a result I drove 60+ miles to a European luxury car dismantler and purchased a used xenon headlight unit with module. It was still pricy but I did save almost $500 by going used off a wreck Mercedes VS going brand new off the internet/dealership.So now I have TWO!!!!! working headlights and it feels so good.

Would you be able to get to the module underneath the headlight as well, apparently my module has gone due to some water ingress ?. Although when inside the car the light switch dash light is also gone, I’ve changed the bulb which blew......still no main headlamp working

I think the module is on the under side of the headlight... you might be able to remove it that way or worse case remove the whole headlight. You should definitely figure out how water got inside.

No the xenon HID bulbs are for cars with the xenon HID headlights. The headlights look similar but are different.

No, only for the drivers side headlight bulb on cars with the Xenon package.

Hows their 25000 volts if the car runs of a 12v battery?

you can see its on the sticker, the headlight uses a ballast to convert 12v DC to up to 25,000 volts AC.

Hey. So my driver's side went out.. I bought new bulb and when I took off the wheel and liner the dust cover was off already too.. I was surprised.. And when I put on new bulb it didn't work.. So I ran diagnostics computer.. This was the code for headlight b162a15.. The bulb from drivers side that I thought was out works on passenger side.. Do you possibly have any solution?

Probably got messed up from moisture or maybe connector. You can check part numbers to see if you can switch and test parts from different sides. Be very careful because the voltage is very high and dangerous.

Do we need to worry about torque specifications when reinstalling tire lugs?

Its best practice to torque the lug bolts, the specs are in the owners manual. I'm doing a passenger side video soon as it is much easier.

If you have the xenon light, the halogen bulbs I think have 2 separate bulbs.

yes some of them do, but to turn them on is complicated the first time.

@@xpert447 You can usually tell by your external door handles. If its just paint color with not upper chrome it is unlikely to have the feature. 1.Turn system on in the instrument cluster. 2. set light switch on automatic A. 3. Throw the stalk into high beam.

Die-Electric Grease. I hate changing the lights on Mercs and Chrysler's. STUPID AS 🤬 Had they literally moved that stupid pipe not even an inch you'd be able to do it from the top fully 🤦🏾‍♂️ You don't actually need to take off the wheel if you turn them to the passenger side, jack up a little, remove the liner. The liner won't even be touching wheel. Press and twist clockwise into the two prongs. Also Die-Electric Grease is your friend. You need to put the grease on the connector and bulb prongs so it doesn't seize especially when driving on salted, wet, snowy, icy, or cold roads. **For the none HID lights**

If you have non HID lights you don't even need to undo the liner, You just can undo the bolt for that plastic support and pop it off (the one that goes from radiator support to the washer bottle), I remember its in the owners manual.
