Thought about changing to the 420CDI? Drove a E500 for two years but changed to the V8 BiTurbo Diesel. Stronger Torque as a 500 and due to being a turbo diesel a nicer "Torque ride" when cruising at 170+kmh on the Autobahn

Too bad the car is limited. These cars go 320 km/h bone stock if the limiter is removed. Modded cars can go up to 340 km/h quite easily. People underestimate this car so much!

@@5ShotProductions Thats exactly the problem, it was an estate and not a limousine. That’s a huge difference. A healthy E55 limousine that is in perfect mechanical condition will easily go 320 on the Speedo. GPS is irrelevant. By that time you have passed any modern car in that class anyways.

First of all upgrade the cooling system asap. The m113k heatsoak really quick after een couple of pulls. Inlettemps go sky-high and don't recover fast enough. A bigger heat-exchanger, 2nd heat-exchanger, a higher flow waterpump and a seperate coolanttank for the ic system are a must. Buy some longtube headers. Then get a tune for the gearbox as for the engine. On fb you have a person who's a magician of the 722.6s. He will turn your old lazy gearbox into something you won't expect at all. After these mods you will have a real e55. Been there, done that. Still enjoying every single mile. De groeten uit Brabant!

They aren’t that bad. Most consumables are cheap, it’s the electronics which can be pricey if they fail, but these days there are plenty of options if you seek them out. For example brake discs are only £60 each from MB.

I'll second what Chris-R said. Most things really aren't that bad, though there are odd exceptions at times. For example, the bearings in the serpentine belt pulleys went bad on mine, and when I priced out replacements, the single row ones were like 20 euro each, but for some reason the double row one, with two pulleys side by side, was 595 euro from the dealership? I ended up just replacing the whole set with billet aluminum ones from VRP for like half that price. The only real cost you can't get around is gas for it though. They are thirsty beasts.

What I should add is that most of the parts that fail are shared with any regular 211, and if I’m going to spend money on a car I would sooner spend it on an V8 AMG than a 300D. Regarding fuel, I just switched to premium (ESSO 99) and returned a big increase in fuel economy. Never saw much about 24mpg on a run but saw 27mpg after the change, and it’s got much colder since as well. When you compare to other 7-seat estate cars nudging 2-tonne that isn’t far away. Mate of mine gets similar numbers in his Ford S-Max Petrol.
