Hey, Your w202 vids have come in so handy for me, now your w163 vids will be just as handy, I have Ml 430 and its just an amazing car the power and way they drive is insane. Although being a v8 when ever it comes to do some light work you regret it instantly, There is no space in the engine bay. Or in my case i spent the weekend trying to open my bonnet from the outside because the hood cable has just gone bad , Currently busing trying to work out why the car stalls when idling or low speeds and all warmed up, cleaning the trhottle body and reseting it is next on my list after watching this

clean the Maf sensor with some sensor clean spray as well.. it may or may not work , but if it improves a bit , you will know the MAF is bad

Hey fupa I'm always enjoying the videos. I just bought a 2002 ml320 it's in awesome shape with only 124,000 miles. Im loving it, I still live my w202 but the w163 is very comfortable and great on snow.

Yes I agree completely.. The W163 is ridiculously comfortable and sometimes on nice days last summer I found myself using it when I would nearly always choose the SLK :)

fupabox I had to replace the idler pulley last night it gave away while driving luckily it happen on my mother's street. lol and advance auto parts had it on stock and in top of that it was made by flenner a made in Germany. wanted to know, what engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, spark plugs and power steering fluid do you recommend? kchilz32 any 0w 40 to 10w 40 full synthetic with the MB229.3 approval on the rear label is good for engine oil.. Castrol syntec and Mobil 1 Euro both meet the 229.3 requirements. For coolant I now use www.recochem.com/products/oem_premium_coolants/oem_premium_extended_life_50_50_premix_antifreeze_coolant_european Pentosin CHF 11s power steering fluid, or the new Prestone European power steering fluid is supposedly compatible. plugs FR8DPP33 for tranny fluid I would use only the dealer spec fluid from Mercedes

He Fupabox, just got this error and acceleration is horrible. Replaced the sensor immediately bit it did not resolve my issue. The funny thing is that it does work when I read the live data but the value increases very slowly when I press the pedal. It drops really fast when release the pedal. Have you got any ideas/tips?

Great! I have an eratic idle on my merc sprinter I'll try this. I also have a W210 E320 which sometimes is slow to shift up. Not always, just from time to time but it does do it at some point on most around town journeys. There is a dash engine light just come on - the red triangle, this may no or may not be related. Any ideas? Many thanks.

Great post thanks! 1999 ML320 engine stalls when warmed up. Fuel pressure is at 50psi at startup but after a few minutes it drops to almost 10 and then kicks back up to 50 and it will do this a few times until the engine finally stalls. It would start right back up again and begin at 50psi. When I turn off the engine the fuel pressure will gradually drop within a few minutes. I had the MAF, throttle body and CPS, coils and wires all replaced. Still the same problem persists. Any thoughts would really be appreicated. Maybe fuel pump? I don’t hear the pump turn on when ignition is in the on position. But I still would get 50psi when the engine initially starts up. Maybe vacuum leaks? but wouldn’t know where to check. I also have codes for O2 sensors. It’s so frustrating. Took to a shop and all they did was plug in their scanner and tell me they don’t know what’s wrong. thanks.

fuel pressure regulator is allowing pressure to leak back into the tank when of for a while . I haven't done a replacement video on it , but it is fairly simple to swap out since it is built into the fuel filter on your 320

Mass airflow sensor... try using a sensor clean spray ..they sometimes work , if not make sure to get a bosch one , the aftermarket MAFs dont work

I just replaced the MAF, crank positions sensor, air intake assembly, fuel pump and fuel filter on my 2000 ML320. Now it idles super high when I start it up, then goes down in drive but is still too high. If I put it in neutral it goes back up to the very high idle. Will doing this reset alone help or do I also need to adjust the tension on that wire? Thanks for any advice.

jamnjam before doing the reset , make sure the cable has some play in it . Then do the reset . If it isn't working you may have a vacuum leak somewhere

IT WORKED!!! Omg thank you this was so helpful! I now remember one of the mechanics had left the key on for long periods of time looking for electrical shorts and it must have messed the idle up. The slack was fine on the cable, and indeed it took about 3 minutes for the buzzing to end. Started up like before...normal. Again, thank you so much!

it's supposed to tick .. it's the fuel vapor solenoid.. brings vapors from the fuel tank to be burned in the engine

I am not 100% sure if the 96 was electronic.. pretty sure it is.. if so yes.. Love the GLK,, drove a few, looking for one for the GF at the moment actually..First gen though . The newer ones don't look anywhere near as nice as the first GLK. Not sure why they changed the body design, in my opinion it is one of the coolest and most distinguishable designs on the road. Nothing else looks like a GLK, now everything looks like a Santa fe.

Disconnect Coil Pack wires loom wires or unplug HT leads if it is Distributor Cap and Rotar Arm. Disconnect fuel injector loom wires too. Should crank without spraying fuel into cylinder and unnecessarily sparking the plugs

To look for it I have a 2003 Mercedes S500 couldn't find it but I hooked you to a machine and it said I needed the throttle sensor so I was going to try that but I can't find it in mind so I was wondering if you knew where it was would be grateful appreciated for your help what does I just ordered the wrong part cuz when I look throttle sensor up it showed me the throttle pedal looking thing and I order that instead so now I have to order the throttle position thing but Geek Parts won't let me and it's closed today so I can't order it till Monday does hoping this would work instead so that I can drive my car until then

I’m not 100% sure . Some don’t have a cable at all and are connected by wire from the pedal to the throttle body . Still same reset procedure with no cable to check for tightness

It should be a tiny bit loose . ( you can pop the plastic ball looking piece up and off ) and put a dab of grease on the metal ball u see it and snap the plastic piece back on .. that will keep the metal ball from wearing out the plastic ball cup and getting looser .

If it is just the low buzzing/ringing type sound . it's fine . as long as it doesn't continue to make the adjustment sounds .. Hard to describe .like a robot moving ...But a constant humm/ buzz is fine. You can turn it off.

Did you figure it out? My 94 e320 has a new similar intermittent. Exception is if you get to 20-25 mph flat/downhill you can activate cruise control and it takes off down the highway fine doing what the computer tells it to do. Have cable to the throttle body. Suspect some switch on throttle idle or wire harness. A mechanic glitched harness trying to fix starting (towed home, & changed neutral safety switch).

yes . The beauty of the m112 and m113 is that they share almost every part . The m113 throttle body is slightly bigger for the increased v8 displacement but fits the m112 and has the same adaptation . this will work with the swapped throttle body

it may .. also check that your kickdown switch under the gas pedal isn't stuck, and the throttle cable isn't too tight . there is also an evap solenoid valve in the engine compartment by the fuse box. It has 2 plastic pipes and a plug in electrical connector on top. it should tick rapidly every few minutes when the engine is running to purge the vapors from the fuel tank . the hoses can sometimes get clogged or filled with gas if the tank has been overfilled. If the valve ticks it is likely fine . you can unhook the 2 hoses going into the valves and let them sit that way overnight while the fumes evaporate from them .

Hey! So my SL500 has a problem, it'll run start fine, until warm about 80° and the will start jumping idle along with oil pressure. Just wondering if this would be the problem with my car?Also just FYI, my cats been running fine for about 3 years and I KEEP oil changed regularly not 3K but about 4-5k.. I did notice the outside temp gauge is not working but I don't think that has anything to do with the engine, does it? All help appreciated! Maybe I'll try upload a video...

Could be a lot of things... vacuum leak, intake air leak, ignition..etc... best test would be tp hook a vacuum gauge to one of the vacuum lines and do a few idle and rev tests.. it will amaze you how a $10 vacuum gauge can spot problems

fupabox Hey! Thanks! I did the tests and and everything seems fine so I left it, BUT I did fix the problem!!! I also tested the battery, I guess it was charging just enough to keep the car cranking, so I swapped out the battery, and idle after warm-up is back to normal!! Man.... Let me tell you, I'm glad it was something so simple!

I have a E280 that idles rough and very poor delivery of power but comes on if i apply gas very slowly but as you can umagine its becoming dangerous from traffic behind as i cant get any acceleration and it pops little back fires or something similar but not as violent as a normal back fire. I havent been able to find a resource that has this issue. Theres videos with similar problems but i need help please

That is the fuel vapor purge valve . It ticks when running as it purges gas fumes from the fuel tank

i got code error P2279, is possible that the error came from Throttle body? i do not have power on my mercedes W204 .... check engine is on . if i reset the error the car goes to 3000rpm but not further. i have chenged the MAF sensor but same result. it is possible that the error comes from DPF? when the check engine is off , i can not see the DPF on diagnose. when the check engine is on i can see the DPF on diagnose software. can u please give me a clue on what defekt bring this to my car? thank you

that code is for an air leak between the Maf and throttle body..you will need to check everything carefully for leaks.. The DPF is a filter for the diesel engines, but unfortunately I don't have any real experience with the newer diesels

2 different things. This method resets idle ..the other resets the transmission to factory shift parameters

1999 W202 kompressor. Hi. Hope this help someone as you helped me. Had a #4 cilinder misfire going up a hill at highway speed. Found 2 bad ignition coils, corroded spark cables and #2 sparkplug burning lean. Fixed everything plus a valve cover gasket and plugs seals. Now the car feel diferent. It has no torque as before. It wasnt limp mode (cause ive driven in limpmode before). Found out that the idle control valve (some call this a diverter valve, blow off actuator) was not closing but supercharger engaged normal. The valve closed only when the engine was cold started then it will stay open. So there was my problem. The car felt like driving in the winter setup, no stalling or rough engine vibration just no torque. Now is when I found your video and my advise to everyone. I knew for sure the valve was not the problem since it close to idle. Most videos sugested changing the valve. Now when i found your video it hit me. Ofcourse the valve works in combination with the trottle. 🤔 so I did the reprograming with the key as you showed and 😲😲😲😲 now it all works fine or better. The car feels new with lots and lots of torque an even better mpg. So my friend CHEERS to you!!! And to anyone else PLEASE dont change the valve before recalibrating it and driving for about 100 miles then let the car rest for the night or a few hrs untill it relearn. I Also recomend to do this after changing plugs and ignition coils even if everything feels ok. Thanks for the video it gave me insight with an indirect related matter and I love to figure things out. Thanks again and have a goodone. Ps. Excuse my engish not my first language.

Negative battery could reset once the speed sensor is replaced .. the SRS light needs a Mercedes specific scanner to reset

Check that there are no vacuum leaks , or disconnected wires.. then do the throttle reset... just turn the key to the full on position with out starting the car and let it sit that way for 10 minutes

so basically you turn your key so that all the lights come on and then just wait for 2-3 minutes without doing anything? I had no idea that would have anything to do with throttle... i have 2000 CLK btw, same engine m112 3.2 ( I actually tried to make that cable sit a bit more snug than it was, now you're saying the complete opposite of what i thought would improve the throttle response )

Yeah there needs to be a bit of slack in the cable.. if it's tight the throttle actuator will get a false reading and idle poorly. Make the cable a bit slack and do the reset and your idle and throttle response will be nicer

Hey Fupa, My car will go into gear but moves really slow in drive and reverse. So slow I cant move it out of the driveway. If I press the pedal to the floor, it does nothing (engine doesnt rev up at all it'll just run as if Im not pressing on the pedal. Can a bad throttle body or TPS cause this?

yes it sounds like the throttle position sensor or the throttle body . likely the sensor where it attaches to the pedal in front of the brake booster

did you use a bosch or an aftermarket maf ? aftermarket will allow the car to run and not stall out , but Benzs usually don't like them . The temp sensor is attached to the end of the MAF so check all the wiring to it . check your engine ground strap . With older cars I usually run a thick gauge wire as an extra ground between a bolt on the chassis to a bolt on the engine . An old or slightly corroded ground wire or ground strap can cause a tiny enough electrical difference to trick the IAT sensor. Check air filter is clean .

Thats a throttle position sensor code...either the throttle body or the pedal sensor. Your W211 chassis skips the cable operated sensor and puts the sensor right on the pedal ..some of them seem to be cable operated as in this video . If you have a cable check that it isnt too tight , you can perform th idle relearn as in this vid , and also the ecu reset ..Turn key to position 2 and Depress throttle fully to the floor until you engage kickdown switch. Hold for 25 seconds then... turn key off and release pedal, leave key in ignition for 3 minutes

Noticed that when driving in auto. and it jumps to manuel that I can hold the shifter over and it will jump right back to drive until I let it go then back to manuel. ? Generally a CEL won't be tripped from a funky idle . A dead battery can cause the initial throttle to go out of adjustment , sitting for a long time and possibly PCV vapours could cause build up to get the idle slightly out of whack .

Hi sir i have a Mercedes benz s320 model 1995 and i travel from baghdad to another city at the reod suddenly the fuel bomb start idle and he stop and we try to open the car but the fuel bomb had fail again then we change the fuel bomb but another proplem had come the battery was very weak then we change it and the car at end came good but i want to ask you how i can fix the throtle body i think could be rest when i change battery. .also the car when i open it goes up to 3-4000 rpm then down to less than 500 rpm how can i fix this problem i sorry to my long information Thanks

It could be many things.. broken wiring harness in the engine compartment, vacuum leak, throttle actuator. Check everything that was touched when the battery was changed

This method works really well, but I cant figure out why after a while I have to keep resetting the throttle, sometimes starting the car after adding new fuel will put it into limp mode then I have to use your method to reset it... any ideas why

Hi there, I have a question pal, I own a Mercedes c 220 cdi 2005, when I start the car I get to go and it starts choking on it self, after that it will only rev up to 3000 rpms and the check engine light is illuminated on the board, when i scanned it on the computer it showed throttle position, I'm really desperate I would like to know what should I do, is this video related to my problem? trying the reset may help , but it sounds like your TPS is either dirty, wiring is bad , or the TPS is toast . This will reset the TPS so give it a shot

Hello . I watch your videos when they are applicable and they are very informative. I have a 1995 SL320 . I think the mass air flow sensor is bad . A few days ago , i took the mass off my 1996 SL320 and put it on the 1995 and the car wouldn't run ; so I put the bad one back on the 1995 . Both mass sensors are Bosche with the same part numbers. Will a cleaned or new mass prevent the car from starting , until the ECU is reset , as in your video? How long do I need to leave ignition on for the ECU to reset ? In your video , you said 3 minutes. I read in one of the comments and you said 10 minutes. I just tried this on the 1995 SL320 for 3 minutes. There wasn't any sound whatsoever ; no humming or clicking. Any information will be helpful. Thank you.

I've seen it reset after 3 minutes , and sometimes it takes 10. Weird I know . My ML350 and 320 would each hunt and click for different times until quiet . It may be due to build up around the edge of the throttle body preventing proper seating of the butterfly valve . Odd that one MAF would work and one not . Even with a bad MAF it should start then idle poorly and stall . I can only assume the MAF from the 1996 has some sort of internal short keeping the car from starting . Very odd

@@fupabox , thank you for your reply . I will check for buildup around the butterfly. I believe it needs a new MAS . What are your thoughts on cleaning a dirty MAS and buying a MAS off ebay (aftermarket with lifetime warranty ) , compared to buying BOSCHE ? Even non brand MAS are $160 at local parts store . Also I read somewhere that when a new MAS is installed, that the ECU needs to be reset because the ECU will recognize the new MAS as an old one. And once the MAS is cleaned or a new one is installed , should I wait longer ( 10 minutes ) to see if the ECU resets ? As I mentioned before , there wasn't any humming or clicking during the 3 or so minutes of the ECU resetting . Again , thank you for you help . You're very knowledgeable about these cars .

Adjust the cable length as shown in this vid . Then turn the ignition key all the way on without starting the car .. when all the dash warning lights come on ... then leave the key in that position for about 10 minutes without starting . After 10 minutes turn key to off then start engine . The idle should be normal now .

Did you clear the old codes ? check vacuum lines and throttle body seal to intake manifold

What a great trick! Thank you I have a 2006 ML500. Recently after the first 10 minutes of driving when I stop at a light, the engine does a slow motion hiccup and when I shift to N the hiccup stops. Then when I push on the gas to start going it has a hesitation and then keeps going. It doesn't necessarily repeat at the next stop but for sure at some other times during the same trip. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks.

possibly a dirty throttle body or very small vacuum leak. Vacuum leaks are usually along the intake, or the gasket at the top of the throttle body that seals to the removeable filter box

Interesting you mention the throttle cable adjustment, my friend's was horrible, she didn't have WOT or anything close to it way too loose. I actually swapped out my throttle body I would get a code in the winter sometimes and the TB would be completely unresponsive, just idle, restart 5 min later it's fine, one of these days I'll pull the old one apart.

Hi I have a 2002 c 240. gas pedal gives out while driving sometimes and esp light pops up. I changed accelerator pedal and mass air flow sensor, got alignment and changed fuel filter. did the reset key thing as well. I still have the problem .

Fupa, I am a bit confused. I have watched your tutorial and have read other tutorials for the OM642, on how to Reset the The Throttle Position Sensor. In one tutorial they tell you to: 1) key on 2) hold the accelerator pedal for 5 seconds 3) key off and release the accelerator pedal. 4) wait 1 minute and then start the vehicle. In you tutorial you: 1) key on for 3 minutes 2) turn off the car. Do both methods work?

both methods are for resetting different things . The leave key for 3 minutes in this video is to relearn idle speed. The other method is to reset the adaptive transmission ecu to baseline

no. 1991SL has direct throttle linkage ..that being said , give it a try it can't hurt anything . It is likely your idle control valve or a minor air leak somewhere . Check all the vacuum hoses

That's the electronic throttle actuator.. it takes the signal/position from the throttle pedal and sends that signal to the throttle body to tell it how far to open or close

My bad, is not what i was looking for- is quite similar in size in shape but is a little bit lower (towards the headlight). Looks like a small pump, has a connector on top and some hose in and out. Also has a "LOW" marking on it... Do you know what that is?

does it make a ticking sound ? I think you might mean the fuel tank vapor solenoid. If so , it is like a little pump..it takes fumes from the fuel tank and sends them into the engine to be burned so they won;t escape into the air. ticking is good.. that is the sound of it working

is the actuator from the pedal cable working ? it comes from the cable that goes to the gas pedal and sends the signal to the throttle body
