Bold statement - at £52,000 no normal person is affording that. UK average full time salary is £31,000. Most working class people are already priced out of new EVs and second hand EVs that aren't Zoes or Leafs. On top of that a third of the UK population live in property without off road parking, that rules those people out of being able to charge their potential EVs at home which is a serious barrier to adoption. So in this case unless you're in the 50k club, don't live in a terrace or flat, a lot of us are sticking to ICE cars.

@@chrisness No where near enough to compete with gasoline powered vehicles. But what’s far worse is the almost complete LACK of infrastructure in the United States to deal with EVERYONE owning an electric vehicle. People are already complaining when they have to wait for a charging station to open up. Imagine there being a line of cars waiting at EVERY CHARGER. Just 2 cars ahead of you would have you waiting 1.5 hours at the very least. At a gas pump you would have to wait about 7 minutes. We’re NOT EVEN REMOTELY READY for the public to start buying electric cars in mass. Imagine if all our cars were electric and the traffic suddenly slowed to a crawl because of a snow storm. That happens all over the country every single winter. Only, all those electric cars will run through their batteries much, MUCH faster than their gasoline powered counterparts, because using electric heat to keep all those occupants warm uses far more energy than is required to keep a gasoline powered vehicle idling to generate the same amount of heat.

ICE cars are not dead, it will take years, maybe a decade or more until infrastructures are good enough to replace them with EVs. People living in houses might have access to installing a wallbox and charge at home easily but many people leaving in flats and parking in the streets will not have that so easy. Also autonomy will still be a problem for a while and many places specially in not very populated areas will lack necessary infrastuctures for a while. Last not least prices are too high and I don't see that coming down so easily either. We'll see if there is capacity to build batteries to replace a zillion ICE cars

Most countries have laws where the brake lights come on during deceleration events over a certain threshold. This would mean it applies to both ICE cars and EVs. Finally, I have noticed a lot of (new) lower model Mercedes are literally rattling with very low mileage, including the test drive EQB I just drove today.

When would the Merc started building the EVs from the ground up, they are falling seriously behind the competetion for the range and storage capacity. Any ideas @Mat?

Uhm, they have an EQS...
@maestro87663 жыл бұрын
@@stijnhs yep they do but I meant more for the common masses. They have released EQA, EQB, EQC etc. but they aren't anywhere close to the competition's offerings in fully EV platform from VW, Audi or even Ford and Hyundai-Kia. I am not even going to mention Tesla.
@maestro87663 жыл бұрын
@brotinger_1 Definitely agree, you and I are of the same mind. That was the key takeaway for me too. I wonder if they have beaten Tesla in terms of battery efficiency per kWh. Defnitely with 50% more charge per cell size they have an upper hand for weight reduction. Looking forward to the new gen EQA/B/C as the current ones are nothing to boast about for BEVs.
@maestro87663 жыл бұрын
@brotinger_1 that's incredible.
@michaeleppler2023 жыл бұрын
@brotinger_1 It's less incredible when you consider that your numbers are just dead wrong - you're comparing the energy density on a pack level for the Mercedes and on a cell level for the Tesla. I didn't find any values for the model 3 on pack level, but it is certainly less than 200 Wh/kg, probably in the range of 160.

I know it's not fair to compare this to the much more expensive EQS, but for the money this car is kind of disappointing. Also at 10:20 it recommends a 1h15m charging stop. There must be a faster charger available along the route.

It cracks me up how they call plastic "vegan leather" lmao. Leather is a biodegradable organic by-product of beef production. We don't actually raise cows just for leather so having plastic seats isn't going to save any cows and is actually adding more plastic to our environment. The foam in those seats is "vegan" too and that's a "vegan" dashboard.

True. I don't understand the problem with real leather. What do we do with all the skins of the thousands of cows we eat daily in the world. Leather is better than all the "vegan" crappy materials they are using. STOP this stupidity. The windshield glass of the GLB250 cracks easily with any small flying object that hits the glass on the road. I have a 2020 GLB250 and so far The windshield has cracked 5 times in less than 2 years. I believe the cause is attributed to a flaw in the upright design of the front windshield. No recall has been announced and MB has not admitted any wrong.

ICE cars aren't dead yet, because - EV cars are currently only rich boys' toys (for example the EQB) - their range goes down significantly on cold weather, especially if the model lacks a heat pump - they take ages to charge and solving this with the current technology will require major changes in our electrical infrastructures (grid capacity and power distribution) So, until these 3 are solved I'm nowhere near becoming a fan. (I'm not an EV hater, but having "done the math" and having been very tempted to jump in, these are the major shortcomings I came across)

Picked up a brand new EQB300 a week ago. It lasted 160 miles...then the rear motor just gave up!!! Had to take it back to the dealership. Since you can´t tow the EQB it had to be transported on a flatbed truck. Unfortunately I had parked the EQB in front of my diesel car so I wasn´t able to get to work in time that day. The dealership offered me a rental car (smaller model than the EQB) but I will still recieve the monthly invoices and have to pay for a vehicle sitting in the workshop. Mercedes need to do something about their poor quality.

I like the styling of the EQB a lot, just as I did with the GLB. However, I just learned that the EQB can NOT be ordered or fitted with a towbar. Obviously having a towbar is not compatible with having 7 seats. What a collossal priority misstake. Now this car is a big no no. for me.

Another informative and detailed review from Mat. I suspect, this little vehicle from MB, with all the bells and whistles will likely be more like 70+ by the time it's around. As far as range, interesting that they decided 65 KwH was enough and the "around 250" miles U.S. seems a bit light, but no dedicated platform so early adopters may be happy with around 250. It's almost the price of a loaded I-Pace (mid-70's) which gets the same mileage and oh so much nicer (5 seat version of course)!
