This is the incredible Mercedes G500 4×4²!
It’s an ultra-big off-roading behemoth based on the previous generation Mercedes G-Class! Standing at a huge 2.25m tall while riding on custom 22” tyres, this is one of the most epic off-roaders around!
It was first released in 2015 and cost an incredible £200,000 when new. And not only that, it came in weighing a colossal 3 tonnes! So given it came in with such a huge price tag and weight, you’d expect them to upgrade the engine too, right? Wrong! Under the bonnet, you’ll still find the same 4-litre twin-turbo V8 as in the old G500. Still, we guess it could be much worse!
So the real question is - is this off-roading heavyweight worth it?! Especially when you consider buying one in 2020 will now cost you at least £250,000? Mat’s about to find out!

The bars on the back are for if some rear ends the thing, all the sensors in the car hitting the g wagon, can still set off the airbags and all of that stuff. Matt pretty much explained the 'safety bar' on the back of the truck. That was in his car crash video not so long ago.

I’ve actually seen one of these IRL. It took my by surprise on a big through street when it went through a bend at an uncomfortably high speed. I’ve also see a G65 AMG, though naturally it was parked at my mechanic’s garage

Hey Mat, I imagine that the bars on the back, serve the same purpose as the ones on the tracks - In case of someone rear-ending you to have a higher chance of surviving(for them). This one is quite high also form the back otherwise, so a car can easily go underneath it.

I have the 2018 G550 Squared here in the US. And I love it. I live in Miami area so. I take it out to the Everglades, drive it north to the Appalachians for camping and long range precision rifle competitions out in the middle of nowhere. Immensely capable and a blast to drive. IT is what I would have wanted when I was 10 and I love it. Compared to the many other offraod vehicles I have had it is better in every way. I'll drive this until it is falling apart.

Those rear bars are there for safety reasons in the event of a rear collision. Helps to prevent a potential decapitation. Trucks are required to have them as well

About the grab handles....I think that's why people go to BRABUS to install the retractable step The 6x6 doesn't have the step either but the Maybach G650 has it standard And I guess most people didn't realize he addressed the rear bars further in the video
