MERCEDES GL350 TWO ENGINE FAILURES IN 189K MIKLES?....WHAT IS THE DEAL?

PETER BOUGHT THIS MERCEDES GL350. HIM AND HIS WIFE LOVED IT UNTIL IT NEEDED AN ENGINE. HE HAD THE MERCEDES DEALER REPLACE THAT ENGINE. NOW 85K MILES LATER, THE ENGINE HAS FAILED AGAIN. HE JUST CANT JUSTIFY ANOTHER $14K PLUS TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. SO WE ARE GOING TO SEE IF WE CAN COME UP WITH A COST EFFECTIVE OPTION.

Might be too late for you but there is a UK channel, SPR Autos Mercedes Benz. They have a lot of stuff inc. the main OM642 problems and remedies.

I've hauled quite a few of those out of the Mercedes plant! Crazy to think it's nearly the same HP and TQ as a 7.3...

my 93 IDI 7.3 was 188hp 330 tq advertised before I put the hypermax turbo kit on ... the sprinter is 188HP or 190PS and 325 .... so the sprinter is about like an NA IDI and it has a 5 speed auto with lockup in 2,3,4 and 5 and a much shorter 1st ... so that pulled the trailer pretty nice ...

I've got a couple jeep grand Cherokees with the same engine (no def), they like to plug up intakes with carbon and the oil cooler seals fail. make decent power tho!

You may want to research that it may possibly have to unbolt the cradle from the bottom and drop the engine from the bottom.

That thing's just begging for a $500 Detroit diesel conversion. You could even use the urea tank as a catch can.

I for one would love to watch you attempt to engine swap that over borked abomination. I recon with your skills, and a bit of help, you are capable of it.

I have one of these Bluetec engines in a e320 without the Urea tank.I am hesitant to watch. Total pain in the ass. I am here to learn something.

no need to come back to see what they / retro fit to this german bag of crap , it will never run on the road , yes they may be able to shove a new donk [ engine ] in there but to make antthing else work yep no ! you got more chance of plucking teeth from a hen tbh!
