Man I’m glad I’m not the only one who nerds out on “correct” hardware. Quality Quality Quality!

I too have buckets of original hardware. I wotked at LKQ in Orlando for a spell, and my lunchtime stroll around rhe grounds was a hardware collection bonanza.

Timely video! Just spent 2 months replating all of my W108 hardware lol

Pierre, when you get a chance, I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on the KW Variant 3 springs & shock absorbers for the W140.

I specifically told my mechanic I wanted to keep the original hardware where possible (all places that aren't one-time torque places). He seemed to agree that the original was better than any aftermarket.

What’s your recommended method for restoring them

My W108 is full of Kamax screws, bolts and washers and if they are in good serviceable condition I re-plate them, where necessary, although being an ex Australian car it is remarkably free of corrosion. Keep the car as DB/MB created it. Good video as usual.

If you buy from a reputable supplier like McMaster or BelMetric you will get quality hardware. Original supplier parts are only needed for concourse shows.

Never had an issue with non MB bolts. The quality of the bolt is stamped on the head . Just make sure you use strong enough bolts . On 114 115 cars with power steering , replace the 3 bolts every few years , before the box falls off .

My friend... the quality is absolutely not stamped on the bolt. You mean the class. That is like saying two motor oils that have your car's spec will perform the same. They won't.

Perfect timing on this video, because I’ll be putting back together the interior on my Benz once you get done mechanically restoring it. I’ll have to make sure I don’t switch out any of my original hardware with prettier looking, newer, but inferior quality garbage hardware.

Generally I take what you say as gospel but not so sure about this one. Stainless steel hardware is superior in just about every way to the original. Rust is also “original” but we don’t leave that do we?

good for you but not all of us can afford you.

But all of us can afford the correct bolts bro, what?
