The exact same thing happened to me with a rockauto Rein branded harmonic balancer. The locking tool did not want to slide easy and I had to hit it with a hammer to get it to seat as best as I could, which was barely enough. Luv the video!

Thanks Paul! Will use this video for my 2000 ML320. Good tip to replace the belt as well. And nice improvised haha! Will order a genuine merc balancer than. Take care and keep it up.

Better to always do your own work... better quality parts and more attention to detail.

As far as I read once you fix the harmonic balancer on those V6s and replace the head gasket for 95-96 inline-6es ... then those engines are good to go for 200-300,000 miles

The M112 & M113 engines are great. Mercedes knows how to make a quality motor.

I replaced my pulley thanks to this awesome video, but now my car won’t start or crank, still has power, doesn’t do anything when I turn the key….😢
@PaulPhillipsFix Жыл бұрын
If the car is not doing anything when you turn the key. You mean the starter motor or nothing is happening. Then try cleaning the key and the ignition itself. See if that helps. You should not have caused any electrical issue by changing out the pulley. Did you forget to reattach the battery cable? If so, you would not be the first person to make this mistake. Make sure the connection is clean.

@@PaulPhillipsFix my key and ignition are fine, I have a new main and aux battery, I’m figuring a starter issue that has just chosen to expire, I have ran my Xentry/Das scan to no error codes as usual, my key still turns the ignition and locks and unlocks doors, I am going to jump the starter the old school way and diagnose from there, my voltmeter reads all alternator and cables at 12v-13.4V peak

@@LsLife5300 Look up "voltage drop test, starter motor" this will tell you if it's the starter or an electrical delivery problem with connection/wiring. Be sure to check on the post and the connector. Do this after you have tested to be sure voltage is being delivered at post.Go to "Scanner Danner Channel" and search " diagnosing starter motors". A Google search should bring you to this, he's also got the great videos on doing voltage drop testing.

@@LsLife5300 Did you do a voltage drop test at the starter both at the terminal and the cable?

Seems like were doing our services in the same order hahah im about to change mine next week. Also have you had any hydraulic lifter problems. My ticking has become much louder over the last 2 years. Would u recomend buying new lifters or just rebuilding them?
@PaulPhillipsFix5 жыл бұрын
No lifter noise at all. I run Mobile 1 0W 40 and seems to work great. I do have a little chain noise on the E430 and I plan to put in a new chain tensioner. The previous owner skimped a bit on the oil changes. Can't hurt to throw a fresh one in there, I got one from Febi.
@PaulPhillipsFix5 жыл бұрын
I would try some Marvel Mystery Oil in there, it may clean them out. After you add that take it for a good run and go wide open throttle a little. An Italian tune up may do the trick. The high RPMs will get the oil pressure up and increase flow through lifters.
@rickdoggent38295 жыл бұрын
@@PaulPhillipsFix hmm i also run mobil 0w40 change every 7k. I have tried marvel, seafoam, and liqui molly tappet additive + the italian tune up😉 . After an oil change its quiet for like 1 min then back to normal. Btw she has 270k on her.

@@PaulPhillipsFix i also got some chain noise. Is it a big job? I dnt wanna be bothering my grandpa too much anymore as hes 81but refuses to stop working on cars!

Not too bad. Just need to pull the alternator and fan if it's a m113, not so on the m112, the electrical fan is easy if it needs to come out.@@rickdoggent3829

We're you getting any vibrations from the pulley failing?
@PaulPhillipsFix Жыл бұрын
I caught it early, before any vibration started; I could see it was beginning to run with a little wobble, out of round. If you suspect a pulley is bad it's best to replace early to avoid catastrophic engine failure. Thanks for watching/comment. Please subscribe if you haven't already done so, it supports channel and lets KZbin know somebody is watching, Thanks.
@BRED510 Жыл бұрын
@Paul Phillips Fix no problem. Reason I ask is my Merc V350 has a vibration at 20-40mph (its smooth at idle), its not propshaft (its new), its not engine mounts (they are new) , and it's not torque converter, so my mechanic has said maybe it's a pulley issue. The harmonic balancer looks OK, maybe a tiny bit of wobble, could this cause a noticeable vibration at certain speeds?
@PaulPhillipsFix Жыл бұрын
@@BRED510 I think a failing Balancing Pulley could be the cause, I would also consider a tire issue, check that no balancing weights have fallen off, and look for uneven wear, you may want to try rotating them. Also, be sure to check that all of your tie rod ends are in good shape and not worn, as well as ball joints. Any worn suspension components can cause vibration issues including control arm bushings. Thank you for your interest in our channel, please subscribe if you haven't already done so, it supports the channel and shows KZbin that someone is watching. Thank you, Paul. P.S. Be sure there is no excessive play of wheels due to improperly tightened wheel bearings (Excessive play).

Hi I have a question. I see 0,10,20,30,40 on the damper pullet. What do you mean?
@PaulPhillipsFix4 жыл бұрын
These are timing degree marks to show the position of the crankshaft in relation to cylinder position in degrees. Example 0 degrees means cylinder is at top dead center. It is at the very beginning of the travel which is 360 degrees or full circle. I hope this makes some sense to you.
@LJH9444 жыл бұрын
@@PaulPhillipsFix Thank you so much! I'm curious. I'll repair the m112 e320 engine myself. I'm going to lower the cylinder head and change the timing chain. Do I have to fix and remove the damper pulley angle at 0 degrees before degrees before disassembling? I'ts hard because there is no information in Korea
@PaulPhillipsFix4 жыл бұрын
You do not need to remove the head to replace the timing chain. Email me at paulphillipsfix@gmail.com I'll help you with any information you need to do the chain replacement. My e430 M113 sounded like it needed a chain but a new chain tensioner fixed it and it sounds great. The previous owner neglected oil changes.
