Mercedes M-Class - Off-Road Test Drive

This isn't the base/common ML. This looks like it has the off-road package which includes that air suspension we love to avoid. So, would the standard suspension do this?

I’ve never even seen one with the off road package in canada. I don’t even think it was available, and it was like a $10k option. Without the low range transfer case and lockers you would have no chance of keeping up with this one on these trails. Impossible.

I wish the ones in USA came with a low Gear there only AWD with no Center lock but I had that air suspension when it breaks it’s a pain to fix

Hardly my ML’s have that expensive off road package with the lockers and low range transfer case. I don’t even think you can order it in canada. It’s not even an option. Would be interesting to see this one compared to a normal ML without the $10,000 off road option.

what do you mean by normal? a Toyota civic would not have the simple ground clearance which as easy as it might be is very important. i must say i didnt now the M had low range at all. Pretty nice, though i just love the real offroad honesty of Defenders, G-Class and Wranglers :)

Partially agree to that. But Land Rovers has insanely thirsty V8s, moreso than the Mercedes V8 in gas & diesel form. Not to mention that aren't the most reliable things in the world. I don't particularly like the the ML, but it's a comfortable and capable on & off roader nonetheless.

although the mercedes is no slouch when it comes to offroad, a range rover could beat it. But the mercedes is better built

if you wanna go real offroad, buy an old g modell, it manages to get through terrain a defender couldnt handle

Rotz Löffel Long as a person has lots I mean lots of money for obscenely priced maintenance and repairs. I can say this as a former Mercedes owner. I love the vehicle but damn their reliability for electronics and maintenance is insane.

Not bad for this luxury SUV. Surely Range Rover is better but the offroad is normally the 1% of our tipically roads.

the people who buy a mercedes benz aren't the same people who buy a v-8 truck for heavy duty loading nor the benz driver is also not the same guy who'll buy a muscle car. The guy buying the benz is about luxury and show off not ruggedly terrain driving getting the car dirty type of driver.

So funny how all brands of cars are trying to copy the Land Rover technologys on their SUV´s, but they don´t really know how to make it properly. Land Rover is the king of SUV´s, it is a relatively fast SUV, very powerful, amazingly comfortable, one of the best if not THE best off roader, very refined and luxurious. For me there´s really no other SUV. I´m sorry mercedes, keep on building sportscars and sedans though!

Well, the H1 isn't really a car, is it? It's sole purpose is to act as a penis enlarger. Yes, it's cool. But on the road, you'd be better of with an excavator. With tracks. The only real upside to it is that you can drop it from a Chinook helicopter, but how many times do you exploit that advantage on your way to work, honestly?
