to many commenters: this car has no off-road pack, that means fixed low clearance and most importantly - no low gearbox and no smart traction control, basically just AWD. This video is a compliment to the fact that even without the features necessary for any off-roading this car is able to go across this terrain

If you don't disengage the ESP, this is the result. ESP kills power and you can say bye to off roading after that. Add street tires to the equation and bingo.

If you could get all four tires to spin together in traditional 4 wheel drive mode, then you could get this Benz out of the sand. But this car is really a city car, what you really need for deep sand is a Jeep Cherokee.

Jeep cherokee is a POS will break down in 1 inch sand. What you need is the G wagen OR I would get a Land Cruiser/ Nissan Patrol / Land Rover Defender. Do not mention Jeep in front of these models - please. All over world, these 3 are the work horses and every serious off roader swears by them Jeep = trashy american over weight POS

Jeeps are crap. However when running as with any 4wd with sand tyres at 4psi and low/Hi Range gearboxes it would have no problem. I would not take my ML bashing like this good car but wrong environment.

The Ml does not have as ready off road helpers standard as the bigger GL. It doesn't have AIR-MATIC as standard so it is harder. It comes in the On-Off Road package in the US. I don't know about your country...

W163 was crap, w164 was a good car and so is this W166. ML or now GLE is a soft roader not an off roader. Good stylish car but not for serious 4WDing. A V8 would make no difference, traction with the rad tyres at 35PSI is the issue here and the lack off lo and high range

The ML was designed to replace the G Wagon, it’s a very capable off roader, the early models were body on frame with a low range and traction control system, which by the way works better if given more power since it uses the ABS, not sure what off-road options this later model has but it’s likely better than this.

The reason 2 of the wheels weren't spinning, was because, it was on air, or not moving, and the technology on the car instead of fuelling the power to drive wheels on air, it uses it on the wheels which ACTUALLY have grip. Absolute fool.

Avengance Lol! I know exactly what you mean, everyone knows how differentials work, but those 2 wheels that are sitting dead should at least spin at a very slow speed instead of beeing dead weight! If you carefully watch the video the other 2 weels speen without moving the car! doooah! try spinning all 4 wheels at the same speed and you will get much better results. Lockers rule!
