Available in two-wheel-drive short-wheelbase form, or four-wheel-drive long-wheelbase form, the Mercedes R-Class is a big car measuring approximately five metres long. Both the R300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and R350 CDI L models come with 3.0-litre diesel engines, producing 190bhp and 265bhp respectively. The R-Class is designed to tempt buyers away from premium SUVs such as the BMW X5 and Range Rover, but it resembles something between a Renault Grand Espace and Mercedes S-Class. It rides very well and soaks up bumps and imperfections in the road with ease, but it struggles when pushed in corners. Both engines are smooth and torquey, and provide effortless cruising and excellent long distance capability. The well appointed interior is both stylish and spacious, which is typical of high-end Mercedes models. As with most large, heavy cars, fuel consumption isn't it strongest point, the cheaper R300 CDI is capable of only 37.2mpg on the combined cycle.

We have had the 1st gen for 4 and a half years and i can honestly say that it is one of the best vehicles we have ever bought. It is genuinely multipurpose. All the rear seats can fold down which can give you the space of a van. The other thing is that every engine has heaps of torque making towing incredibly easy. The problem comes down to running it, our 320 CDI car averages about 26mpg which is pretty poor and car tax is beginning tt exceed £400 a year.

The flashing LED are because of the shutterspeed on camera, there are over 1/50... never use auto settings on camera ;-)

New Led lighting can apparently not be captured by the most commonly used cameras.Im guessing It must have to do with FPS vs wavelength of the LED´s - I´m no expert thou. (Someone explained it in detail somewhere) You will see this flashing in a lot of car reviews, both front and headlamps. BTW Good precise review.

LED lights don't get captured by the camera properly. Even on the Mercedes commercials, their DRLs seem to flash a lot, but in real life, it's lit up constantly.

Look at the second prices of these on Autotrader....... Shocking depreciation, much worse than most mid priced Mercs. Cheap second hand but running costs would not be the same as a Seat Alhambra!

The reason why the interior looks outdated is because this is in indeed an outdated car and since it sells very poorly, Mercedes couldn't be bothered with a proper update. Anyway, Rebecca looking lovely as ever.
