Mercedes R107 SL door card removal and repair

Thank you for the video. Just a little trick that I use to remove the door panel despite the difficulty posed by the central metal clip of the panel handle. Just place a long flat screwdriver (or other flat instrument) between the clip and the door when lifting the panel. Thus the clip will avoid returning to the door and will allow the panel to be lifted. No need to remove the door handle this way.

Hey Mike you R107 videos are so helpful. Tackling my 87 560 now. On the door card, holding the corner of the small plastic box is a round black fastener - what is the proper way to remove that to take off the cubby box? Afraid I’ll damage if I pry and it doesn’t seem like a screw part. Many thanks for all the videos!!

Thanks for the photos...but I have to confess that I'm stumped. That piece does appear on any of the door cards I have dealt with...although there does seem to be a hole cut in the door card at that location for something. Here is a link to the "doors" on the 560SL - I cant find anything in the pictures that looks similar...maybe you can? mb-teilekatalog.info/view_GroupAction.php?lang=E&mode=BM&class=1&aggtyp=FG&catalog=575%20%20%20&model=107048&spmno=0&group=72 Try twisting it out...and failing that....large flathead screwdriver. Mike thanks so much. I agree this coin sized fastener doesn’t show on the diagram at the parts site so I’ll just carry on with a flat head. Again - your videos are extremely encouraging and helpful, and quite frankly I would not have disassembled my 560SL for paint (in the paint shop now) without having the confidence of process gained by watching your work. In particular, the front and rear lights and seals and chrome- really helpful info. Thanks again and Cheers! JJ

Use a butyl tape chaulk. It will also allow you to remove the film again, yet it sticks

No the back piece in the front that you showed snapped off

@@keeganbudden4244 If you still have the piece, here is how I would repair it. Use a VERY small drill bit, and drill two holes in the broken off piece and super glue in two metal pieces from something like a paper clip. drill two holes in the other piece of plastic so that your two protruding pieces of metal fit in. Fill the holes with super glue and super glue the edges. You can also potentially use a hot staple gun to further strengthen the break. I'll be doing a video soon on using a hot staple gun to fix various bits of broken plastic on an old merc. If you don't have the broken piece, and you want to make up a piece, you can try using baking soda and superglue to build up the remaining piece and then sanding it to shape with a Dremmel tool. You can also look at plastic plumbing fitting and seeing if you can cut one up and glue/melt it on. Mike

terrible video...I'm having an issue removing the door panel at the latch end of the door, the small square chrome part at the window junction will not release to allow the chrome facia to come off...you told us what you were going to do and the next shot is with the panel removed...what happened in between?

Let me know if you still have the same issue and I'll take a closer look at one of my 107's to see if there is a fix for your issue. Is the facia plate moving at all...or is it stuck fast. Is there any movement in teh chrome square? Mike
