The most basic and most important maintenance item of our car. It is vital for the engine to have fluid inside. Make a habit of checking the oil level at least once a month. And make sure it is changed at least at the intervals that are recommended by the manufacturer.
Even though it is recommended to check the oil once a month, I try to do it a little more often than that because in a month I could have the engine empty, if there were a significant leak. Especially with performance engines.
Oil wears down and breaks down, not only because of the heat and pressure, but also over time, so it is important to change it even if the car was just sitting for a long period of time.
The car reminds you when to do it, so don't turn off the service reminder and forget about it.
Turbo does not mean speed necessarily, they have different applications. Most cars now have turbos and they are not sports cars.
Never run the car hard before it gets warmed up. The coolant gets warmed up before the oil, so the temperature you see on the gage is the coolant temperature and the oil may still be cold.
Do not turn off your car right after you run it hard. The circulation of the oil helps cool down the engine, so if it stops running the oil won't cool down the hot parts and they will wear down faster.
Also the oil is standing right next to the hot parts of the engine creating sludge and the oil will lose viscosity. Let the engine run for a few minutes after that hard run.
The car consumes at least a quart of oil every 600 miles. More than that if you drive at high speeds often.
The manufacturer recommends extracting the oil. Many companies do, to make sure employees don't forget to put the drain plug back or tighten the bolt. If the drain plug is not present or it has not been tightened, the engine will lose the oil and cause catastrophic damage to it. That is why it is important to torque to specs.
To check the level. Park the car on a flat surface. Ideally the car should be at 80 C degrees or 176 F degrees. So if the car was running and at operating temperature, let the car cool down for at least 5 minutes. Pull the deep stick out and clean it, then slowly put it back all the way in, wait at least 3 seconds and pull it out again. If the level is between the min and max the level is correct. Try to keep it closer to the max. If it is on the min level or less, you can add a quart of oil. But put it in a little at the time and check the level each time.
Keep the plug pushed in while unscrewing it.
Do not put too much oil in the engine. It is better to have a low level than having oil pass the max level. You can damage your engine or your catalytic converter.
When you take the oil out, check the color, it should be brown or black. If it has a milky color it could mean that you have coolant leaking into the oil side of the engine. Also look for small particles like small pieces of metal. If you do, have somebody check your engine. It could mean that you have some internal damage.

I just bought a2015 s550 and per the paper trail the dealership has been doing the oil changes for her. I am glad to see your videos on KZbin as it builds confidence and guidance. I do my own oil change on my wifes m3 and on my miata and i also have started to send a sample of my oil to blackstone oil analysis for a review of the internal wear of the engine components. My last report showed normal signs on the m3 but my miata had a rough grading- however they asked me if i used additives. I did use additives on my last results for the fuel and engine but this time around i will see the results without the additives to see what they conclude for my miata. Just wanted to share if you ever do try oil kit analysis to keep that in mind as it may affect the results.

Love all your videos and your amazing info Jose! Are you worried about the front timing covers? Do you plan to do a video on those? The gasket behind them can leak and coolant will be into the oil. Major week point on the M278

Thanks for you're video i want to know if i use oil extractors how much oil be left in engine because in the video shows a lot left in pan which is not good i got one but I'm not sure to do it on s550 2016

Thank you so much for your comment. Liqui moly is great. I just like to use Mobil1 for all my cars. I do use all of Liqui Moly additives as you can see. And I change my oil a lot earlier then you normally would.

I know some of you guys wanted me to show you how to spray the GDI. But the GDI is more useful in a EFI engine. The M278 is a DFI engine and the fuel system and valves get cleaned with the gas that goes into the combustion chamber. So by adding the products I showed on the video about fuel injection cleaner you will be safe. If you really want to spray the top of the valves you could by spraying after the filter on each side of the engine.

@@josecitomarin I think on m278 valves are not get cleaned by gasoline. It was true with m273. But, m278 is direct injected engine. It is not a port injected one as m273. Gas doesn't touch top of the valves in m278. Therefore, using valve cleaner that is put into gas won't do anything and carbon is accumulating on top of the valves. Walnut blast or spraying valve cleaner on top of the valves are the only solutions for m278.

@@orgundeveci1613correct. The m278 is direct injected and the fuel does not clean the valves or any additives you add in the fuel tank. Fuel and additives get sprayed directly into the cylinder, hence direct injection engine.

Hey man. Should I remove a little oil first before adding liquid molly so engine isn't "overfilled" which I'm sure won't hydro lock it but just to be safe or waist of time? And furthermore, suck method or drain?

Thank you so much for your comment. You should really put the additive when you put new oil in, so you keep an eye on the oil level. If you want to add after you have already done an oil change you can add if the level is a little low. It is better to have less oil than too much oil in your engine, because that extra oil will create more pressure inside the engine and that oil is going to want to go somewhere, so it may brake a seal somewhere so it could scape. I like to alternate between suck method and drain method. It is so easy to do the suck method, but in doing so, you cannot see what is in the bottom of your engine. I replace my engine every six months. So once a year I do drain and once a year suck method

@josecitomarin hey man. This morning I ran into a few problems with my 2010 s550 4matic w221 5.5l. Please help. Four days ago i noticed an air leak notice front right air strut was leaking, front end deflated every morning since. On inital cold start in the morning vehicle rises normally since i noticed that there's been no other issues besides deflated bags in the morning. This morning bags were deflated, in the initial start up everything was good until I noticed every malfunction show up and it failed to rise in front right corner then shut her off and the srs malfunction stayed lit and wouldn't even attempt to restart the engine

Almost every manufacturer will tell you NOT to use oil additives lest you void the warranty. And they also put time limits on oil age. However, is that to say if I have oil on my shelf for 6 months or a year that it is no good?

Thank you so much for your comment. I am not under warranty anymore. I don’t think the manufacturer would like for your car to last longer than they want to, so naturally they are not going to recommend that. This is a very good product that I have used I many cars. It’s really your choice. If the oil bottle is open, between 2 to 4 years. If the bottle is closed up to 10 years. This is for synthetic oil.

Jose Why you use 5Wx40, most of the guys use 0w40 ?

Thank you so much for your comment. It has a little more viscosity than 0w40, and stays like that at high temperatures. It’s also better in the cold. I live in NJ. 0W40 may give you a little more mileage on gas, but I rather have more viscosity to protect the engine.

@@lilsou it’s not something I experienced or calculated. It’s what is in the books. Mercedes tells you that so you don’t worry about it. My car runs smooth not rattling at all.

@@josecitomarinmy manual says the same thing . I have a 23’ E450 coupe . I think Mercedes just puts that in the manual to cover their rear ends incase an engine is burning that much oil.
