Mercedes SL Rear Window Heater - Diagnose + Repair

Hi All,
The colder months are coming and my rear window heater is not working! This video I test different aspects and get to the bottom of the issue, fixing it with a $7 product and toothpick!

You are very clever man. I normally watch your Range Rover videos (because I have 2) but I was interested to watch you diagnose electrical issues. I have the icarsoft too but I don’t have the knowledge you have and seem to need to solve the problems. Keep on making the videos has I have been inspired to fix minor problems on my old Vogue. Who knows one day I might be able to tackle the bigger issues. 🤞🙏👍

I wish my problem was as "easy" to fix. I followed your diagnostic steps to discover that every flipping element has some small break due to corrosion. I'll post pics on the forum.

I can't believe it mate, can you see the breaks easily?

It seemed highly unlikely that all the elements would be broken at once, so finding the connection break in the power was great. I will look again.

Thanks for the content - have an issue with my driver side mirror which is getting very hot even though driving with ambient at 12 degC - checked the relay in the sam unit you mention and this appears to work correctly. Do you know what switches this side mirror heater on/off? Doesn't impact the passenger side mirror that is not getting hot.

does the drivers side mirror not get hot at all? I would look at the connections at the back of the mirror are okay, or plug in the passenger mirror to the drivers side to check.

Hi Mike, I wonder if your passenger mirror heater in the glass is not working and why the drivers side is getting hotter? Can you swap the glasses over, (I know they will not fit, but you could connect it loosely just to test?) The switch that operates the heater in the mirrors is the rear heater button, they work together.
