Timeless. I have a 2012 SLK on private plates. Kept clean and polished always gets admired. I would not buy a new one. Bought mine 3 years old. Paid less than 1/2 new price. Runs like a dream. A car to keep. Lovely summer driving.

I quite like the SLC. Its not an out and out sports car like a Boxster, its more of a car you just want to drive around in and enjoy the open top. I would definitely consider this over a TT or Z4 (if I had money of course)

Ironic how little it's changed since our 2013... Ours has all the extras he recommended, including "command center" and a bunch of AMG add ins... And this 2018, (for a 5 year newer car), just doesn't look that much different than ours (inside). That's not bad, but it probably needs a refresh to keep pace with the other vehicles, particularly in electronics. Still I recommend it for the same reasons the reviewer did. Its not a "boy racer." But its a wonderful weekender (pack an overnight bag only), comfortable, and quick, when you want it to be, and in sport mode, with anti-slip engaged (default) it give you enough confidence in the corners, to have some safe fun. With the top down, windows up, the windscreen between the roll bars, the air scarf blowing on your neck, and the heated seats turned up, it makes a very respectable "winter" convertible too. The infotainment system, and controls, are typical Mercedes, and once you learn the locations, they're right where you'd expect them to be. Our infotainment system had the 6 disc and DVD player in it.. Not sure why you'd want to watch a movie sitting in your car (DVD not operable when driving) but it does work fine. Ours was used, but perfect. Mercedes owners are often meticulous about maintaining their cars, or trade them frequently, and that leaves a lot of car for the next buyer. Love it, and recommend it heartily.

We have a 2009 one and after 11 years i can tell you that the reliability has been top notch. And its quiet sporty too, much sportier than a TT. (The 350 version)

Too bad it was such a negative review of such a nice car. The build quality is very good. The design is fantastic and even classic. Old is relative and not necessarily bad. That car has lots of clever solutions that makes for a very good open top high quality car.

This is the facelift version of the car , all cars have facelifts after 3,5 years of production (7 years in total of production of a model before the all new model comes out). In facelifts they usually change the front and rear end of the car to make it look more modern , or in lighter facelifts just the bumpers and some minor changes inside the headlights and some small pices of trim inside the interior. On this car they made a big change in the front and allmost none in the back... If you have trouble spotting a facelift vs a new model just check the interiors the interior stays the same in all the years of production.

The SL has a button that moves the roof up when it's in the boot to take bags you put in there out. Strange the SLC doesn't have it.

Well I love the SLK I was wondering if there are many new features..in the SLC . Not as standard it seems.. You complained a bit about the roof having to stop... But this roof system was late 90s I just love it What a work of art it is.. Only right you have to go slow while roof opens.. It has to last the duration... But the older SLK from late 2016 Merc Transformed the car with that gearbox and add blue engine.. 9 speed smooth gearbox... PS I like Dials I have a Merc with buttons to push what a pain in comparison to the classy SLK dashboard

So I have a low mileage SLC 250D, and its a lovely thing. Drives really nicely and is incredibly smooth. More a quick grand tourer than an out and out sportscar, but after owning fast cars that made me drive like an idiot, that's actually quite welcome. Only downside is driving it on poorly maintained roads. Mine's the AMG Line, with the firmer suspension, and it bangs and crashes over potholes. Not nice at all to be honest, so I tend to use one of our other cars for trips into the city where the roads are pretty rubbish.

I have to pick you up on a few points. I ordered a new SLC 200 Manual in May 2018 (for Car Wow prices) while I was waiting for mine to arrive the dealer kindly lent me an SLC 200 Auto which I had for 11 weeks until mine arrived.(All through the hottest UK summer on record) The Auto 9 speed box is very smooth and the Dynamic select is fun, but your comment at 4:18 about the manual gearbox is rubbish. Half the fun of driving a sports car is the gear changing and I much prefer the 6 speed manual box which is gorgeous. (Flappy paddles aren't the same! ) Pity they don't offer this on all the models. At 6:35 closing the windows does close the rear windows now as long as you wait until the bleep to say it's finished. So they have listened to you ! At 7:16 you criticise the plug in plastic air deflector (which I agree with) but for a small extra go for the Air Guide which are 2 perspex swivel air deflectors and work SO WELL with the air scarf and don't spoil your rear view mirror vision like the grey plastic one does. It's a brilliant car !! I love it and the technology including Mercedes ME which you don't mention in your description is the best I've come across including Range Rovers & BMW's. Wanted to point out to potential buyers that if the manufacturers list price (not car wow with discount) comes to over £40,000 then you will pay an extra £500 road Tax to the government every year for 6 years!! so choose your extras carefully and keep it below £40k (unless you are rich ! I own a 2012 SLK 200, 7 speed auto i agree i hate the fact it's a boring Auto and the paddle shifting is less fun and more awkward than just knocking the gear lever left or right to change up or down,the roof not opening while moving can be modded to open around 30mph,as most SLK owners do this mod first as i did and the mod allows you to customize all the things Mat hated about the roof, i fitted the mod chip myself cost of £180 used off Ebay and my car has all and more options than the one Mat reviews here,leather dash and upper door panel strips(extended Nappa leather) and air guides that swivel out from the back of the roll bars(as you have said too) which on my car are aluminium which is a further option instead of the flimsy thing between the seats,so the reviewed car with it's £16,000 options here is not even fully loaded. If i were to buy another i would like a manual gearbox option in the higher powered models too and i do not understand why Mercedes thinks there is no demand for one or has not offered it in the more powerfull versions since the r171's.

Yes you are right that manual is more fun. But you have to realize that anyone that can afford or wants this car is probably gonna be an old man that just wants to cruise around. A car enthusiast is not going to pick this car most of the time when there are soooo many more fun cars to drive for the price yah know. However, if I were given this car for free I damn sure would go for the manual over auto too lol

People complaining about the interior. This interior is the same as in the A class and GLA except from the screen which is better than having an ipad stuck to the console. Interior is getting updated in 2019 anyway. Stunning car just not worth £56,000.

Just as a perspective on the comment on the standard navigation system. In Germany you almost do not get a navigation system in any car as standard, so we Germans always have to pay around 2000 € for the navigation :/

I like the honest review. You don't really like the car and that's okay. Too many cartubers these days think every single car they review is the best thing ever. When you review the car and say that lower trim feels cheap and nasty, perhaps they make it in hard plastic because you are otherwise going to scratch it with your boots. So it might actually be an advantage over soft material that won't last.

I think you don’t understand a thing about the car. This is not a “sportscar” , but a luxury sports cruiser for relaxed people , appreciating the classic timeless look. In 20 years from now , this car will still look great, while other now so called modern cars will look as “ modern” clothes and haircuts from the ‘80 s , today.
