Great job guys, really enjoyed it! Well, here in the UK, I've owned both. The Z3 first, although mine was the 2.8 litre "widebody". I have to say though that even the 2.8 didn't feel particularly powerful and certainly had less torque than the SLK230K. The 2.8 in the Z3 had 192hp and my SLK230K had 196hp and a LOT more torque. Overall, I preferred the handling of the Z3 but everything else was better in the SLK. Power, torque, comfort, reliability, economy and built quality. I would not fancy a Z3 with the 140hp 1.9!

I think the SLK is a better built car, faster & good looking. But after having driven both cars, I think the Z3 is a much better driving car. For what I want though, the SLK is the one

The SLKs by far. You should have also had people view the cars with roof up. I have two SLKs as they are cheap as chips here in Europe and no the hydraulic motor for the cab is not hard to replace.

Nice and Fun Video, SLK is a more reliable car as bmw has the issue with all sorts of oil and coolant leaks and from the headlights I would say mercedes has used a more quality material.

I got a silver '99 slk amg kit manual 2 years ago 117k on the odo and never had an issue love it to death drive it hard 😇👌 after playing gran turismo 3 again I realized I made a good choice lol

I have a mint condition SLK r170 in silver of course. I feel the hard top roof and the beautiful back of the SLK is a deal breaker for me. But I must admit that the BMW front looks better though! I have even been offered money from strangers just for a ride in it! Of course I turned them down! But my friends will take a ride for nothing! Just kiding! :)

I’d say the MX-5 Miata beats both in terms of reliability and lower maintenance costs and by a wide margin. German car companies had a lot to learn from Japanese engineering and design. The only thing the MX-5s really sucked at was rust prevention. But that too seems to affect Z3s and SLKs so many years later too. But yeah the MX-5 was a much better design overall. More dependable and they sold way more of them. It was just a little too small overall. Doesn’t fit 6ft tall corn fed Americans very well but what do you expect when it’s being built by the Japanese.

Parts for the Z3 are difficult to get new. Mercedes still makes parts for every single model since 1990. Z3 is a sports car. Mercedes is a cruiser. When I was 30 I had a Z3. It was a great car with great steering handling. Now I am 50 and own a SLK 2003 model. I love the hardtop compared to the softtop. If BMW had a hardtop I still would own a Z3 or Z4. Foldable hardtop is a game changer. I like the second gen 171 better but the old Mercedes engines are built to last forever. All those new engines from any new cars like GDI, CGI, TFSI, JTS ,Ecotec are garbage. Carbon builds up in the engine. Old fuel injection engines can make 250.000km easily. My wife drives a BMW 420 company car. WITH 118.000KM engine swap. My neighbor has a W205 2liter 78.000km engine full of carbon. My Alfa GT 2.0JTS powerlos due to carbon build up in the engine. My sons Audi TSI 2.0 same problem. Old is gold. Get yourself a decent early 2000 BMW or a Mercedes any sportscat or a cruiser and enjoy being a man.

I've owned both , and would say BMW . One big difference is that I can actually use the manual convertible top in my Z3, and not shell out big bucks replacing hydraulic cylinders for the over-engeneered hard top in the Mercedes. I got nervous every time I operated it. Also I love my stick shift.

Both are great however Z3 will never have that classy look that SLK has. In addition in Europe there is SLKs with 5 and 6 gears manual transmissions that quite fun to drive.

the vast majority of the Z3s made were made with the far superior BMW straight 6 engines, but you find a 4 cylinder car to compare as being representative of the Z3. Honestly a 6 cylinder Z3 blows away the SLK in performance and handling

BMW falls apart, not as reliable. I have a BMW 323ci, Slk230 and an S500. All the rubber and plastics decompose on BMW among other issues including haywire electric system after certain components need to be replaced.

He asks a bunch of young people which they like. Young people don't know shit about cars. Only go by looks and what they're told. And there's a Lotta chatter about BMW looks but no one chatters about their shitty quality. My best friend bought 3 BMW brand new one right after another and all 3 of them had major issues. Meanwhile I'm rolling down the roads problem free in my 15+ year old CLK500. Next time try asking some older people who've actually owned and appreciated many cars and during their lifetime and I'll guarantee the BMW gets smoked. Also, the roof test is crap. I'll bet a thousand dollars the SLK is quieter inside with the roof up than that crappy clownshoe with the toilet paper roof you can toss around so quickly.
