4:53 oi, those timing chain sprockets are really really worn. See the way they are bent over and even broken at the tips? Might want to think about replacing those. Great episode.

Despite that, for the age of the engine it seems pretty well taken care of. Sure they get old and worn out and replacement would do it good, but I'm surprised at the lack of well, destruction here.
@danielprivate7442
@danielprivate7442 3 жыл бұрын
@@RestoreIt Well, if the client doesn't want to shell out money for a new part, you might be able to do this: If the sprocket is simply keyed to the cam AND if the hub is symmetrical (no offset) you could turn the sprocket around and gently file the tips that are gnarled over so the chain seats nicely. Just don't forget to transfer any timing marks to the other side of the sprocket too. That will buy some time before the part fails.

Hey man look on autodoc for the oil cooler and you can get one for a w116 Is not the exact one and it has top and bottom inlet/outlet connection but with some slight modification you can make it fit. I did it on my w123 and it sits nicely. Good luck

´the wire whell doesnt take off material...i use it in the shop to clean off old gaskets and sealer on valve covers and sumps and if you look closey it doesnt even remove the machining marks...you just have to use a not very aggressive wire wheel and dont force it, obviously

Hello :)! There is some time I would like ask to you about, I hope you will don't take it bad. So, why are you using the dremel with a metal brush for cleaning the aluminium part? It's a thing i often see, and it always a paint to watch it as it scratch and alter the aluminium surface in the process. Why don't you use instead some soda blasting on the aluminium part, it's a good compromise for removing greases film and contaminant as paint. That's especially really effiency for cleaning sensitive part as carburators. Always found it (little ;)) damaging your overall resaerch of high quality and clean as possible restaurations. Otherwise, as usual, good continuation to you ;)!

The black paint on the bell housing is overspray from the factory, and wasn't necessary to remove. The shift linkage was a non coated steel when new, and was never painted. Only a yellow inspection paint mark on each end would have been present. The Exhaust gas recirculation pipe is stainless steel, and was left bare when new. It was not painted. However, the nuts on each end were yellow zinc plated. In addition, the top of the EGR valve was yellow zinc, not clear zinc (silver). The fan and pulley on the alternator were clear zinc plated when new. They were never painted.
