Hey guys, in this video we will show you how to remove and replace battery on Mercedes C Class W203. We demonstrated on a 2005 Mercedes C320 but it should be the same procedure for the whole generation from 2002 to 2008. It is not very complicated procedure but the battery is big and heavy and the bottom mount is a little hard to reach. If your w203 does not start it is very likely to be a dead battery.

The Mercedes was a good vehicle up to 1994 or so. After that is a terrible mistake to buy a new Mercedes. I owned a 123 for more than 20 years and I made a big midtake and sold it to buy the 203 model. Terrible. You start from your home and you feel that you will return by taxi. Prefer aToyota Nissan Honda or Korean vehicles but never a Mercedes BMW .

I had to disconnect the shocks from the hood to raise it up more. Almost impossible to get the battery out by myself until I did that. Not to mention it was killing my back try to work the angles until I did that. Once I raised to good higher without the shocks holding it I was able to get it out on the first try fairly easily.

Disconnect the shocks? You are aware, that if you push the button on the right shock standing in front of the car, that the hood can be raised to a 90° angle?

Most Benz’s have a hood service position as someone previously mentioned. On a w203 just hit the red button on the drivers side shock while lifting the hood. Newer and older cars are different.

Wrong procedure, you need to feed backup power to vehicle before disconnecting,otherwise you lose data and may cause problems

you make a big mistake. When taking out, disconnect the MINUS first. When putting in, connect the MINUS last. Otherwise you have a risk of shortcircuiting while connecting or disconnecting the PLUS

on mine, the battery is located somewhere near the front passenger seat. i can't see any charging point for jump start. can you please let me know if there is any charging point otherwise i need to expose the area to find the battery

I look it up and I’m thinking it’s the car battery since it’s over 10 years old and was cold out the night it stop working . Has that happen with anyone else when the battery is dead?

Mine did that too... Open the key fob and blow into it ... Take the battery out and everything and put it back together. . . This worked for about 6 months until it was time for me to replace the entire fob. . .

You can't totally disconnect the battery without a backup. You'll lose all the datas and memories.

Why does everyone set batteries on the ground? It's ground potential and will start draining the battery through inductance at a rate depending on the characteristics of the housing. Everyone everywhere does it except a few older guys who remember the old batteries or a few electricians who with on building batteries. A piece of two by four to set it on works

How expensive is it to maintain this car

1 year after I bought my 01' C200 CDI I have spent: 1200$ on fuel and engine oil(the high quality diesel in Poland is about 1,2$ per liter). 300$ on parts 200$ on mechanics' labor 150$ insurance 1850$ total. I did 22000 km total. The cost of the car was 3000$. Its fairly cheap I would say, yet some parts can be very expensive.

+samus aran My car has over 288.000 kms of mileage. I bought it from a car reseller so it is probably more like 500.000-600.000 kms. The only problem with suspension I had was a worn stabilizer link. Are you the first owner, or did you buy it from someone? Maybe your car has much more mileage than you think? I heard that some cars from Germany can do as many as 300-400 K kms in 3 years. My car is very old compared to yours yet I have no problems with it(2001 pre-lift, 116HP version).

i'm in canada. the w203's here don't last long. people abandon them because of poor build quality. we have lots of eletrical problems with them. i'm the first owner. and yes it only has 100,000 km. i wish it were more reliable. there's lots of them for sale second hand around here because of all the issues with them.

I own my 2002 C200 kompressor as my daily driver for fifteen years now and it is out of motor plan, I still get is serviced by the agent here in South Africa, having owned a golf and an Audi at the same time I find the Merc to be cheap to maintain. It has proven to be most reliable and having sold the other cars I still drive the Merc without any issues, Parts such as fuel pump, crank and cam sensor, suspension arms I have replaced and doing the work myself for these repairs they were reasonably priced from the agent. Depending on how you manage the costs you can drive these cars for a long time and not having to spend much on them due to their excellent build quality.
