What's weird about this mode, is it looks like it could have insanely huge variants, strategies. combos, teams and everything. But they're starting off SOOO slow, so simple and so visually plain. If this could soon morph into what feels like Hearthstone puzzles, figuring out the exact moves/stuff to throw at an enemy to win, it could be really fun, and the grinding/upgrading cards could also be fun and rewarding in the long run (if it's not super pay-to-win) I was hyped for this mode, now I'm a little spooked, but I wanna give it time before I cast extreme judgment. Overall, Arena will always be best mode ez pz.

Isn't that what this already is, or what it's supposed to be? You are supposed to figure out the best way to maximize damage and take the least amount of damage with the colors, skills, and the order of when they happen. Nevermind, i think i know what you mean now. You mean having it more like a puzzle, kinda like the Boomsday lethal puzzles? You kill all the opposing mercs and creatures by doing an exact combination of skills, like first buffing a friendly character to then deal exact damage, where as attacking with both wouldn't be enough, or something similar?

It sort of already is puzzles, at least in PvE. Like, Grommash has his move that slows down an enemy's next move, which you can use to get a stronger move someone else has off to kill them before their turn starts, even if your big attacks are all slower than their move is supposed to be. Lots of team comps should feel like "Hearthstone puzzles", it depends on how many flexible utility moves your team has, and if you want to use them instead of rush damage blindly.

Really weird how the game gives you so little information and uses hardly any of it's screen space. You'd think player knowledge would be prioritised in a game with loads of characters each having different abilities, but apparently Blizz wants to hide that as much as possible.

The more information they write down, the easier it is to spot interactions that are bugged: it means Blizzard can’t just claim it was what they intended. Hearthstone’s lack of rules clarity has been one of its most consistent features :-p

I'm super interested in the PVE part of this game mode. I don't think I'll mess with the PVP until they fix it to where you can see at least what all base abilities a Merc can have when crafting them.

that doesn't really matter because you can only craft them with that character's specific coins. What *does* matter is being able to check the opponent's abilities in combat. Like what possible decision are you making not to craft gruul with your 300 Gruul coins? So you can keep 300 Gruul coins that can't be used anywhere else??? @@DATskorge also there IS a reason to save your coins. Coins are how you upgrade your abilities. If you have 300 and you spend them all on crafting Gruul, you now have no way to upgrade your abilities even if you were to use him all the time. If you have 300 gruul coins and you save them until you open gruul in a pack, you now will have a much stronger gruul than the guy that crafted it.

@@rafaelramboschardosin691 You can see their intentions by mousing over. It's hard to see what they are going to do at a glance unlike games like Slay the Spire. Then again there are probably a lot of abilities that dont fit the mold of just attacking/blocking damage so it'd be hard to show the indicators outside of the ability icon. Then again if you complain you don't know what the enemy does at the start of battle... Well most games in the rouge-lite space tend to not do that either.

PVE lets you see 100% of what enemies will do each turn, it sounds like it's more your speed. By time you naturally learn the cast PvP makes more sense to try.

Well, for crafting purposes you can just use a wiki or fansite with all the information. Having no intel during a PVP battle is definitely inconvenient, especially in the beginning when you don't know all skills by heart. I hope they make it in the final release, that you can check the full setup of your opponent.

at 11:20 the reason the damage is so high is because it considers "you" as the player, so it's not only from restoring health with Xyrella but ALL healing in the match. That passive 3/heal per turn on top of the heal from taunting Cariel (and restoring health) means it's a massive powerhouse to boost Xyrella's ability.

It's way too far in the development cycle. The launch date is fix, so all they are doing now is some polishing but this requires a major overhaul / redesign from an earlier stage on.

Alot of people are just giving this mode hell, but you need to remember the reason of early access playing. Things like bugs (looking at you, Xyrella), not showing enough info, being too basic, and not graphically appealing enough are all things that can be fixed in the future. If this game mode was bad after a month past the release date, then it would be more understandable to be so upset about it. Its literally not even out yet and everyone is just shitting on it; Its still be developed.

I'm excited about the game mode. Because this is heavily focused on PvE and mobile-friendly gameplay, this will be a great casual game to occasionally play. Great game mode for when you have a bad cell phone connection, for example. Can't tell you how many games of traditional HS I've lost because of a bad mobile connection, but that's an issue only for PvP and not PvE (due to turn timers / difficulty levels).

This mode looks like Blizzard's take on Pokemon's triple battle, where your mercenaries are essentially pokemon that have a moveset pool, but not all of them will necessarily have the same moves (until the meta settles).

If the game launches like this, it will be fundamentally broken. The fun of any PvP is having access to the same pool of cards/abilities/skills. Matchmaking against someone with even one mercenary that's leveled higher than you can fundamentally make the match unfair. And that's aside from being unable to view or understand the ability trees for unowned mercenaries. Imagine playing Hearthstone and being unable to read the text on your opponent's cards unless you owned them too! This sucks!

I think this has so much potential, but they definitely have to work way more on it. Improve the interface with loads more information, making better use of all the screen space, adding more quests and unique events for special mercenary abilities, etc and I think this will be a hit. This game mode looks like a really bad version of slay the spire or monster train... And to not even be able to see what the cards do while playing or even before you craft them is insanely idiotic. The pvp looks like blizzards version of auto chess but without the strategy, how can you strategize if you have no information? I'll bet this mode tanks, people will play it for a couple weeks and then be done with it. Worst part; some people have already dropped $120 on it to get all of the preorders, so even if no one plays it after a month, blizzard recoups their costs. Corporate driven game design at its worst right here...

The only semi-valid argument I saw for not showing the abilities is because you have to use that characters coins to unlock them, and those coins can only be used for them. So there is no reason not to craft that character once you have the coins regardless of their abilities. However, I feel there is no excuse why you can't hover a hero and see at least the abilities they can use. There is enough space for the UI to fit for sure.

How it is a p2w? This is really fair, because you only uses mercenary's coin to upgrade skills and equipment, to unlock them u have to play and play more. Leveling a Mercenary is only playing. Just making the tasks u can get 75,000 mercenary's coin and +100 mercenary's pack, so you can get all the rare and epics for free if you have luck, without spending gold, and if you have more luck, get a good amount of legendaries.

I'm going to assume HSreplay is going to have to create a thing that shows us all the merc abilities while in combat since the game itself doesn't show us. Seems like something the team should've added into the game, but oh well. Pvp looks like it could be quite complex, yet fast paced and I like it!

Nevermind, you don't have to remember every move, there will always be some broken shit combo of abilities, that everyone will use eventually to grind more wins, then they'll nerf it, then it's another combo comp and so on
