The Man he is impersonating is Boris Karloff. Boris played the Frankenstein Monster in the first three Frankenstein Films. He is also known for being the narrator and the voice of the Grinch in the Grinch that stole Christmas.

the announcer was MR. Dick Clark the longest living teenager RIP. This was American Band Stand

This was from American Bandstand a long running television show that had teenagers dancing to poplar songs of the day. The host Dick Clark was having some banter at the beginning with a long time “regular” dancer whose name was Famous Hooks. He was very poplar and good dancer on the show from mid sixties thru early seventies.

My friend had this record when I was a kid, he used to blast it out on repeat on his old wardrobe-sized radiogram.

5:29 That's a reference to Boris Karloff, a famous actor who starred in horror movies starting with "Frankenstein" in the 1930's.

I think I was 10 when Bobby Pickett was on American Bandstand. Now my favorite Monster Mash cover is by Geoff Castellucci of VoicePlay.

Bobby (Boris) Pickett made a living out of impersonating Boris Karloff, but you really have to know the early Horror films of the 30/40/50's

I was 10 too and agree with you. This flooded the AM radio waves.

I was a kid then. I remember the song from the radio, but I never knew what the singer looked like. I was raised in the country, and we listened to the radio more than watching TV. There were only 3 TV stations, and none of them came in well. Radio was AM, and all the little towns had radio stations. I enjoy your reactions.

His facial expressions only add to the song, which is good one it's own, Hahaha.

The show at that time was LIVE but Bobby Pickett "MIMED" the actual master recording of the song, which he recorded in May Of '62 i believe

@@leroywood8410 It was still fun to see his facial expression. It’s crazy how many things were lip sync or mimed that long ago.

"novelty songs" were really popular in the 50s, 60s and 70s. it's too bad that form of music is fading away. weird al yankovic is about the only person still putting out comedy songs.
