Ozzie invented head-banging! Black Sabbath was BIG from the beginning. They were part of the "British Invasion" of rock-n-roll spreading across the pond to the USA. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones, Cream, The Beatles, and the list goes on. Others of the era were The Who, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Robin Trower, Uriah Heep, Foghat, there's just no end to the talent from those years.

Almost every band in the late sixties and early seventies made anti-war songs. That was pretty normal back then and didn't hurt the bands' careers. It was the time of the Vietnam War and the musicians were mostly born shortly after World War II and grew up in poor circumstances. Black Sabbath's bassist Geezer Butler mostly wrote the lyrics. Black Sabbath, along with Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, were the most important hard rock band at the time

I was 16 yrs old. 11th grade in 1971,,, my highschool had about 3 thousand students there. only about 20 liked Sabbath. We were " THE HEADS" smoked and drank and Partyed, By the end of my 12th year 2/3 were digging Sabbath. Their first 3 albums grabbed them !

I got to see them in the mid 1970's. It was a great concert!!!! No one sounded like Sabbath, no one! Tony the guitar play loss his finger tips on his right hand, yet he can do this. This is a good protest song!!! The lyrics apply these days as ever!!! Ozzy can sing, yet these days he can have a hard time stringing a sentence together.. SAD!! Rock & roll is a hard life!!!! They were a great band!!!! Hall of Fame good!!!!!!

Two Mics back then meant that one was for the concert venue and audience PA, the other is for recording machines. PA systems and recording boards were separate where now all audio can all be routed together in the mixing boards by just one sound engineer.

One of the best antiwar songs. People never bothered to listen to lyrics so they often thought it was pro war. There is another version with a story video that is really good thematically. Agree, he was once super talented. The later reality TV years were sad. Culmination of excessive drug use, but primarily alcohol abuse deterioration.

I saw Black Sabbath and Humble Pie at the Alexandria Roller Rink back in '71 ($4.00 a ticket), and it was one of the best concerts I've seen. Humble Pie opened and their set was incredible, to the point that we were wondering how Sabbath could follow that. But Ozzy and the guys put on a pretty impressive show themselves and managed the trick. But Humble Pie did make them have to break a sweat.

That whole live in Paris show.. and there is a LOT MORE.. the sound mix is so amazing for back in the day. and all of the songs are better live than on the release .. i't s amazing. The other one it compares to in terms of sound and live performance for that era has to be tanglewood and Chicago. Maybe there is a live doors at that time .. have to see. I bet they kicked ass too. This is a prime example of how great music was back then. This is about as raw as you can get, but they are fantastic; these are musicians from the best era of music. Iommi and Sabbath created an entire genre of music (heavy metal). Bill Ward on drums, along with Butler on bass formed such a great rhythm section to compliment the guitar. A common saying is there is Sabbath and people who are copying sabbath (something like that).

Geezer wrote the lyrics for this and most of the Sabbath songs. The live version lyrics here aren't quite right, maybe this was too early version. Glad you heard the studio version, very wonderful iconic lyrics. The energy here in the live version's incredible though, Bill is a beast on the drums. I don't think the song hurt their career in any way, became one of their biggest songs, but the record label did rename the album from War Pigs to Paranoid because they were afraid it might be too controversial in the US.

My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛‍♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom

Dominika, you're looking at the song through today's lenses. They prob had Moms Against Devil Music, or other social groups like that protesting bands and songs but that usually made them more popular. The band KISS, I think got the most hate from those groups. They literally thought they were devils. The band gained a sort of acronym for their name, Knights In Satan's Service. The band exploded in the 70's and it had nothing to do with devil worshiping. Their costumes, performances and of course the music was all part of a big package with them. So big that they created what they call the Kiss Army. Of course you paid a membership fee and you would maybe get memorabilia type stuff. I think they even had a comic book. It was crazy. Their marketing was possibly bigger than their music. Every song from this show is great, but if you prefer to listen to the studio first, I won't go anywhere. Sabbath is at the top of the list for me!! Love you both❤

Ozzy didn't do The Osbourne's because he needed money, he had a lot of hits as a solo artist, and he toured with his Ozzfest music festival for decades. His wife/manager Sharon is known as a very tough business woman. He's worth a couple of hundred million dollars.
