How marvelous! All 3 of them are geniouses of course, but Paco was the giant of flamenco R.I.P.

I am 61 and as a child in the late 60s and 70s I was already fascinated by Paco and his music. I am from the Netherlands and next May (when I turn 62) I will visit his birthplace Algeciras in Andalusia with my children. Finally. The albums these masters have created are phenomenal. By the way, my daughter will be getting married to my beloved son-in-law near there. I am really looking forward to it.

paco de lucia.....the greatest guitar player without doubt

Only Paco De Lucia is a flamenco player - this is closer to jazz and both Di Meola and McLaughlin are jazz fusion guitarists, both virtuosi on acoustic and electric guitars. Like most jazz players, they are using plectrums to play using an alternate picking technique; Paco is using a standard flamenco finger style. This track - given its title - pays homage to flamenco as a style. De Lucia is a master of flamenco but was very adventurous and experimented with jazz, having started out playing a more traditional flamenco style. Di Meola is American - from New Jersey - although of Italian heritage. McLaughlin is from Yorkshire in England.

Three unique masters/maestros unicos who take you on a musical journey, back then as Teenager. It never occurred to me to get a video. Thank you!!!

So amazing players! It´s great how they talk to each other with their guitars. The music starts with Al di Meola composition Metiterranean sundance but soon turns out to be Paco de Lucia´s Rio ancho (although it´s not credited on the video´s title),that is the vehicle that the musicians use for their improvisations and then they go back to Mediterranean sundance at the end.I´m from Spain and I´m very fond of flamenco so I must tell you this is not strictly flamenco.Anyway it´s very nice! Cheers!

You need to check out the album Friday night in San Francisco, the greatest guitar recording of all time. I heard the trio live twice and they were phenomenal. John and Al had their differences but were united in their admiration of Paco.

Al Di Meola is American, grew up in New Jersey. John McLaughlin is a British guitarist and Paco De Lucia is of course Spanish.

- Andrei, since you like the way Paco "hits the guitar" (for percussion), you must react to MARCIN! - ANYTHING by Marcin. - He is flamenco influenced - as well as classical, and more. - He has his own style, amazing technique, amazing sound, amazing talent. And, his performance is an energetic joy to watch.

If you liked this one, you have to try this one: John McLaughlin & Shakti "Joy" (Live Montreux 1976). It will blow you right to the sky. Trust me, i saw that trio you just reacted to and i saw Shakti. Two wonderful concerts i will always remember.

3 amazing virtuosos. I'm a Mclaughlin fan and can't speak w/ any depth to the other 2 except that Paco seems to be revered as a god-like musician by many, and not just flamenco guitarists. A virtuoso among virtuosos. But Mclaughlin has had an amazing and varied career. He went deeply into Indian music w/ the band Shakti, see this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJ-6Y5pspseVqKM . Also his Mahavishnu Orchestra was a ground breaking fusion band in the early to mid 70's, not sure how to describe them, maybe Indian-jazz-metal. Would suggest the song Birds of Fire, One Word, maybe One Word or Resolution as 3rd track. Mclaughlin was also the guitarist on Miles Davis' seminal fusion albums In A Silent Way, Bitches, Brew, Jack Johnson, Live Evil.

3 guitar masters; a concentration of skills and talents like no others! this was recorded during a PAVAROTTI & FRIENDS event with many stars. Paco de Lucia is considered the greatest guitarist of all time and not by me that I'm nobody but: ERIC CLAPTON: A TITANIC FIGURE ... AFTER LISTENING TO HIM I WAS AFRAID TO TOUCH A GUITAR MARK KNOPHFLER (DIRE STRAITS): AFTER LISTING TO HIM I UNDERSTOOD THAT I NEEDED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY A GUITAR KEITH RICHARD (ROLLING STONE) YOU TOLD ME THAT I'M ONE OF BEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD, BUT THERE ARE OTHERS GREAT LIKE ME ... AND ABOVE US ALL, THERE IS PACO DE LUCIA

Paco is the only Flamingo artist, John M is considered one of the best jazz artists, and Al is more classical and rock.

Avec beaucoup de respect, seul Paco de Lucia joue du flamenco les autres jouent plus du jazz bref c'est bizarre...
