This song and performance are masterpieces. For real Rammstein fans Stein um Stein is on the top 5. Love it and can listen over and over. The obvious is that this song is about psycho and a bad relation. But I also see that it could relatate to Till's and the rest of the band members background in DDR where the leftist government built a wall and locked out all light by killing freedom and democracy, but at the same time used propagagande where it all was made to look shiny and perfect.

Till's voice here is insanely deep and beautiful! I get what you mean by it's comforting even when it's something awful he's singing about lol. This is such an underrated song of theirs and I wish they played it live still.

The song is just perfect. The story has so many levels of narration. It could be about a relationship where one part takes complete control of the other's life and cuts them off from their social ties. Or it could be about life in the GDR dictatorship, where the regime controls and manages the lives of the citizens.

For quite some time my interpretation was the 1st one you mentioned. But something just didn't fit. Than it hit me. Of course they talk about how it felt to them growing up and living behind the wall. So im9 the 2nd mentioned interpretation nails it.

The best band on planet earth. That complete Völkerball concert is a masterpiece. The sound is brutal. I really like the sound of the drums and the assembly of it. Simple as in the Live us berlin of 98, another masterpiece. Rammstein has it all and for all tastes. Greetings. PS: I think Nobody by Marilyn Manson, the official video is a good topic to react to.

It's really amazing how powerful Rammstein's drums are (also applies to base/guitar I think) while being incredibly simple. Go into most refrains and it's very simple beats with some cymbal action, but it sounds incredibly... large.

Hey, awesome reaction as always, thank you! One perspective of that song I have is actually: All band members come from east germany, former GDR. The country was walled in for 40 years and seperated from the rest of the world ("the garden") until german reunification. I think they are talking about this from the view of the GDR-government... but who knows, you always can interprete so much in Rammstein-songs!

it’s a metaphor for the GDR, moreover till goes before finishing it ^^ I suggest feuer und wasser puppe ( studio version) a song very dark but mesmerizing. Haiflisch (clip video is hilarious x) ) it took me years to watch the dvd of völkerball, because I wanted to keep my impression of this concert and this evening intact, now, with the memories which lose their color a little, it gives me so much pleasure to rediscover it and through the eyes of no one who discovers, because I really discovered rammstein at this concert ^^

I call it the "Natasha Kampusch song", this case happened in Austria. A psychopatric man is kidnapping a 10 year old girl and for 8 years she had to live in a small room without window. Sadly it is not methaphoric, it is real. At the end she was the stronger part in this very sick relation and she knew it from the beginning: "Only one of us can survive".

A message for Andrej and Dominika - this song is not about love, but about the demolition of the high concrete wall that divided Berlin /Ost and West/ in 1989... The song is certainly not about person X killing person Y in this way. As often with Till's lyrics, strong images are built up to trigger emotions and to tear the listener out of his comfort zone for the moment. Basically, as in other texts by Till, it is about the need of people or groups to exercise power and control over others, to take away their natural freedom and how far they go for it. This can already start in relationships, where after the fun one suddenly starts to lock the other into his imaginary world and does a lot to not let him escape. At school, group dynamic behavior, such as bullying, can keep the victim temporarily or even lifelong imprisoned in certain dispositions. Or power elites who make whole peoples the scourge of their own ideas and create nightmarish frameworks for it, in order not to lose control. After all, the narrative here is from the perspective of a perpetrator, the terrifying absurdity of the narrator's thoughts and actions in the context of the thought world of most of us. And even the phsychic disposition of the wielder of power is hinted at in the narrative and Till's portrayal. If the song, in the context of the lyrics of the narration and the music, creates an unpleasant feeling in the listener, it has achieved everything. From my point of view a whole strong song in the interplay of music, lyrics and interpretation of Till.

I believe that it's not about physical abuse or murder but I personally believe that it's more about emotional/ mental abuse..you cant see the light you feel even more trapped because who can see emotional abuse? You feel walled in...th beutiful garden is you smiling on the outside and showing everyone how happy you are but inside your dying and crying out for help...Some think that emotional and mental abuse aren't real, that it's no big deal...but actually it's worse than physical abuse..yes getting hit it hurts, but the pain is only temporary...the stinging will subside..the bruise will fade... your body will heal, but being told your worthless and stupid everday for so long that you actually start believing it yourself now that stays with you and the pain is even worse because it gets into your subconscious and its very hard to reverse years and years of negativity constantly being hammered into you...
