I think it's really clever that players only need to read their own rules, and don't need to know those of their opponents. That keeps the game relatively accessible for the type of game it is. I don't think I've heard other reviewers mention this. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it was very interesting.

I agree! Most other «assymetric» games feels harder to teach! This is pretty straight forward :)

I was surprised at how much I like this game. The teach isn't too bad and the game is fun and pretty quick (both of my plays have been around 1hr 10mins) and I really really like the art. Not to mention the fantastic table presence! Regarding the expansions, I managed to compact them into one additional box (three the insert out) but I do wish there was a way to fit it into the main box (with the insert). Sorry to hear that 😞 What you wanted was under the insert of the secret stash box. It should be easy to get someone to take photos of it, so you can print it yourself, so all is not lost 😄

After watching your review my wife and I went to our friendly neighborhood game store and bought the core game and all of the expansions. Basically, our lack of self control is entirely your fault! I don't know how you sleep at night.

This strikes me as one of those games that is designed with the intent to sell expansions. A lot of the interest seems derived from the abundance of “stuff” rather than the gameplay itself.

We usually don’t get expansions, not even for KS games (with exceptions of course)! I do agree with you that this feels like a game you’ll want to expand faster than other games! :) I still like the core game though 🤩

"Norwegians speaking about cardboard, what is not to like?" ............I legit have no answer! :P I have no idea with this one, I didn't fancy it on KS and seeing what the game is like with the 4 different games essentially in one, I'm not fussed if I miss it, but I'd try if it was put in front of me. It's like with stuff like Root, I don't want to teach 4 separate games every time new people turn up!

Yeah, Root is pretty hard to teach 🙃 This is not, as we talked about, you don’t have to teach it, people can spend 5 min to read their own rulebook! 🥳 You might not like it, as it’s a lot of multiplayer solitaire, but the central mechanism is very nice, and the interaction is good!

I liked the game, but I personally won’t back the expansion. The base game and stretch goals from the first one gives you a lot of variability. It’s a unique game, and we had loads of fun with it, but I haven’t played it since the review, so I cannot tell you how I would feel now! Let me know if I can do anything else to help!

This game has a german Version now. But it is very expensive... There are just to many games

I find it ridiculous how large all those boxes are. Why would I use tons of space for a "light puzzle game"? I mean I don't really buy any games with boxes that size, because I don't paint minis anymore, but this is just so out of proportion. What I am a bit surprised about is how this is a 7 compared to the 5 for CloudAge where your main criticism was how light it was 😅

I wouldn’y say my main criticism of CloudAge was how light it is. I could easily rate a super light game a 10 if it was amazing! I enjoyed my time, and the mechanisms here more than in CloudAge, therefore a better rating :D

It is just that this Merchant's Cove game looks so boring that I couldn't believe this rating - also considering the amounts of stuff for a game which could have been an X and write pretty much.

Haha, that is ok! Not all games are for everyone, and if you think this seems boring, there are so many other games to choose from 🥳 For me, I really enjoyed playing this! The interactive parts are great, and the timing is interesting! Personally, I do love multiplayer solitaire, so the personal puzzles are also very nice! Some are more fun than others, but most of them where fun! Will this enter my too 50? Probably not! Will this be one I look at and think «that was fun, I’d love to play that again»? (in 2050) Absolutely :)
