Excellent video, but I have a question. What type of transmission oil can be used for a Ford Mustang 95 V.8. 5.0 (T50D)? In my owner's manual it mentions MERCON "XT-2-QDX" Could it be MERCON V or MERCON DEXTRON III? Thanks and Regards

yeah. 2006 ford discontinued and stop licensing original Mercon. Ford supposedly modified the Mercon V formula to be backwards compatible with original Mercon, whereas in the past they werent always compatible for some applications.

I have a 2002 Lincoln Continental. It says the same thing. Mercon V for the transmission fluid, regular-old Mercon for the power steering fluid. I've used Mercon V, regular-old Mercon, and off-the-shelf power steering fluid in it, and have never had a problem. The only difference I've noticed was that when using Mercon V, the steering feels a bit more "slippery", and the steering wheel has less resistance when turning. I think Mercon V has more friction modifiers, which allows for a "whippier" steering action. Other than that, I think they are close to identical, hydraulically.

Would it also be ok for my power steering pump? I can not find a solid answer and my Haynes manual calls for Premium Power steering fluid (not ATF I believe). I'm currently using Mercon ATF and will soon swap in Type F fluid as final PM. I have a 96 E150

Right on Gabriel, Thanks for watching. Page 358 of the Owner’s Manual for your 1996 E-150 Van calls for Mercon part# XT-2-QDX. In 2006 Ford issued Technical Service Bulletin 06-14-4. It says Mercon has been replaced by Mercon V. You can review TSB 06-14-4 here; www.aa1car.com/library/ford_tsb_06144.pdf - So the correct fluid recommended by the manufacturer for your Power Steering is Mercon V, (that’s the fluid shown in the video). -Chuck

Yo Tom, That 15% Costco Discount, works at any manufacturer dealership, (GM, Ford, Honda etc.) It can be applied to service work too, not just parts. -Chuck

I ordered a case on line for much less of the V. It has now gone up in price. I will only use motorcraft in trans. To expensive a repair it the trans messes up. Don't take a chance on wrong stuff.

Hi Chuck, I recently purchased a 2008 Grand Marquis with 77k miles. I want to catch up on all the recommended servicing. My manufacturer guide says the premium gold coolant is good to 100k miles. But considering the age, I'm tempted to flush and change it now. Is that a good idea or am I wasting the money? Thanks for all the advice. I learn a lot from your channel.

Right on Alan, The Mileage recomendations in the Owner's Hymnal, and Scheduled Maintenance Guide are written based on the industry average of 15K Miles driven per year. 100K is only 6.6 years at 15K Miles per year. Your car is 13 years old, so it's overdue by 7 years. So yes, change every single fluid in the car. Don't forget the power steering fluid, and the differential fluid. I have a video on that. It was the very first video I made, so it's even more horrible. I'll leave a link in a separate comment. -Chuck
