Mercruiser 350 MPI Seawater Pump Impeller Replacement

After experiencing a low water flow and overheating alarm, I replaced the water pump Impeller on our Mercruiser 350 MPI.

I took it off by accident but actually found out that it was easier to do the water pump repair with it out of the way!

Did the acid you used to clean the casing cause any damage to the bearings? 😮

No it did not

Would dipping and cleaning the pulleys into the phosphorus acid not remove the lubricant from the bearings inside? 😮

Hey Alan… yes you are right. I only dipped the part without the pulley into the Phosphoric acid to clean it.

Had the same thing happen to me last weekend, hope parts of the impeller didn't get into the engine.

That’s a great way to ruin your day, Jose… if you are missing any rubber pieces, they are probably circulating in your heat exchanger if you have a closed system, or you may have spit them out in your exhaust. The repair isn’t difficult, just impossible to get to in my case.
