I've owned mine for several years and I love it. My favorite part is I can do it all by myself. Interestingly, I can have mine put together before most friends untie their kayaks.

Hi Ann forbes where did you buy this kayak i want it too becoz i don't have a room for a fix 10 foot kayak

Hey Anne. Have the ratchet straps and rudder wire/mechanism held up ok? Also...have you self-rescued on it? rolled it? I ordered mine...it's on its way!
@LeslieCalling20243 жыл бұрын
@@gerardsss1 I was very concerned about the ratchets but they have held up for years now and I am a little hard on them in more recent days. If I paddle salt water, I make sure to fully rinse with fresh water within an hour after kayaking. Self rescue, no I haven't in this kayak specifically and know I should. I personally don't go in rough water but I understand a manatee, dolphin, alligator or my clumsy self could turn me over and I should practice. I play it really safe when kayaking and I am mostly in shallow water where I can get to shore easily.

You could always order new straps. Every single part can be replaced. Mine are holding up fine. The pedal and rudder system work pretty good. It won't move automatically since you are locked into the kayak putting pressure against them. And nice to be able to turn faster if needed. It beats any rental kayak I have had, can say that much. A bit of strength is needed to put it together or take it apart alone. If you have someone to help you, I wouldnt worry much. If you plan to use it 100% alone, something to think about. There are many videos on KZbin with people riding this without issue. Some a bit hard. Even a guy rolling it. It's a perfectly usable kayak. It's a really an intermediate level kayak. Or a beginner that is willing to learn to paddle a kayak of this size correctly. All boats have niggles. If you're in a situation where you just have a small car, and perhaps live in an apartment, it's a great option.

the mercury looks very cool. video description says "The super efficient keel rudder with an integrated retractable skeg is a revolution in itself!" to be fair one could mention that the same keel rudder with skeg system was introduced by EPIC kayaks of Australia in 2008. "The new revolutionary take apart kayak", Australis Canoes of Australia makes such three and four piece take apart kayaks from polyethylene since almost a decade, but they were not the first either.

early three piece wooden take apart kayaks with quick release clamps were already designed the 1920s and 1930s in europe, the US and Canada. another run based on that same principle came up again in the 1960s when composites took the lead in kayak manufacture and again in the 1970s with the boost coming from polyethylene. three piece wooden kayaks are still around as stitch and glue boat building kits.

Can anyone point me to a video for dissasembly of the Mercury GTX? I just had mine delivered (with a broken skeg!) and while I'm able to assemble it fine I can't take it apart.

And how do you de-assemble it?? It is not even written in the manual!

It's not shown anywhere, I'm also struggling every time to disassemble it on my own.

@@enricomilovan5543 I took one Snap-Tap off and played with it a bit. Turns out: if you use the big lever to tighten the connection its "axle" shifts up a bit, making it impossible for the small lever to be pressed far enough to unlock the connection. if you press on the axle side of the big lever first you can unlock the connection very easy. That explains why my snap-taps seem to be locked up after a tour. It's beyond me why the hole in question is big enough to allow that sort of play.

@@enricomilovan5543 Pressing quite hard on the small lever once moves the big lever enough to make it possible to unlock the snap-tap.
