I have an 87 mercury 70 HP 3 cylinder and I'm trying to ohm the trigger. It has a brown, white, violet and black. Do you know the specs? From black to each of the other colors I get 750's for ohms. And when I test the 3 colored wires, not black, together I get 1050 ohms.

Hi I have a 1989 115 mercury 4 cylinder outboard.2x2 it starts and runs but misfires at idle on one cylinder, I have replaced the coils and the cdi and the HT leads, Would a bad trigger cause this issue

If one of my trigger wires read high reading and drop all the way down to 2 and bounce around is that a bad trigger?

That's a very general question. It sounds like an issue with the Phelpon system.

I have a 91 150 xr4.. I want to test it but im sure I read that it supposed to be disconnected before testing .. is that correct?

Son how can I reach you I’m in Texas with a 1150 that will start and run only with starter engaged. Once you let off started it dies instantly. It’s like to cut the switch off. We had to completely wire the motor and new key switch when installed on the boat. Please need help.

@@MerCSonL6 Boat has a center console we have install a new ignition switch and wired everything according. We have a wiring diagram for this 1976 motor and control box how ever this boat doesn’t have the typical controls. The ignition switch is mounted in the dash. We have replace the ignition switch, also had the started rebuilt and a new starter solenoid installed. Like I’ve stated it starts and runs while staying on the starter but the minute you let go of the starter it’s like you turned the switch off. I have by passed natural safety switch, kill switch, mercury switch trying to make this run passed having the stater kicked in. The new ignition switch we picked up at the dealership to match up to the wiring harness for this motor or so we where told and wired it according.

@@RedRiverRedNeck309 sounds like the kill switch wire and ground is crossing somewhere. It could in the control ignition pigtail, external wire harness, side plug, internal harness. When the engine is in the "run" position there should be no continuity between ground and the kill wire (I believe it's the orange wire). Lmk

@@MerCSonL6 ok it will be Wednesday before we are off again to check that and I’ll let you know. This motor has been wired direct it came without the harness plug on the side of the motor. Some one along the way for what ever reason cut the plug out however we have we have a wire harness with correct color wires in it.

@@MerCSonL6 I have a 1984 1150 It is bogging at wot I have rebuilt the carbs followed your link and sync for adi and it is still bogging at work it has 110lbs on all cylinders new spark plugs it has weak spark on cylinder 5 but the rest have good spark any suggestions?
