Thanks for all your vids. I have done this a million times with the measurements. This flat test is by far the easiest and most logical way of doing things. . I've replaced the needles many times, too. Now and then I still get a leaky carb. I think it is just the thing with these motors. A full link & sync vid in detail would be good if you ever get the time and motivation. Otherwise, thanks for everything. All the way from Australia.

Bro. Love your videos. Excellent explanations. I don’t think I wouldn’t have kept my Merc if if were not for you. I couldn’t take the tangs out so I soaked the entire bowl top assembly in spray can carb cleaner. Used a glass jar with a lid. When I took it out, the bowl was super cold to touch and the needle and tangs were pushed out (fuel stuck open). the needle doesn’t go in and out. What happened?!? ‘83 40HP

Is it normal for the needles to kind of stick when fully pushed up? I've inspected them and it looks like they're good. But the kind of take a Lil more breath to pop them out when they get fully pushed in. I know the fuel pump pushes with like 5-9 psi. Do you blow fairly hard while testing it?

I do not. It common for some needles to stick. The oil from the fuel will loosen/lubricate. Son

@MerCSonL6 I love your videos. I have a question I can’t seem to find the answer to in any of your videos. What would cause an L6 to shut off when throttle is applied quickly, but you can nurse it up to 3500 RPM but no higher while in the water. Out of the water (no load) it revs fine. I’m leaning towards a lean condition (clogged main jet) what do you think?

you can put new brushes into that electric motor.. just did that on my 1970 trim unit. merc.. tricky to reload the new brushes into the receivers and put the armature back into place and into the housing.. new brushes had to be shaped to custom fit.. but that was the easy past . new brushes cost under 10 dollars.. did the same job to my buddies tower of power a few weeks after that .. 50 year old brushes were worn to a stub. i guess it could be the solenoid but you can put 12 volts right to the terminals on the electric motor to see if its working.. check both directions.. both terminals ... than you know the motor itself is working.. good luck. it was a satisfying repair to do.

Mercson, I have a 79 115 inline 6. When I pump the bulb up, fuel is pouring out of the carbs. It’s hard to start but once it starts I can restart it and it fires right up however, if I shut it off for say 1/2 hr or so and go to restart it it’s very hard to start. I have a fuel pump rebuild kit as well as three carb kits. Is this a symptom of carb issue?. Could it be needle and seat problem. I don’t think the carbs have ever been worked on.
