That was simply AMAZING! I found your video because for the past few days I have been dry fitting the parts to my kit. The instructions are very fine print and lack so much information its impossible to put this together. So I have been taking screen shots from some of Adam Savages videos of the real Mercury and a few other websites. But I found your video by accident and I HAVE TO SAY YOU ARE THE MASTER SCRATCH BUILDER if there is a master category. How in the world do you know how to cut such small parts? I am hoping i can go to your channel and find some videos that will answer how you tackle the scale issue. As I watched your video I recognized so many of hte parts from photos and screen shots I have collected. Oh before i forget What in the world did you use to make the wiring harness with? I have been considering finding some very thing copper wire and painting it white or grey and using that. I am just beside myself in awe of your workmanship. If its not classified or top secret can you talk about how you approach making scale scratch parts? PLEASE? Do you have classes or some way of teaching your skills? What a class that would make. Thank you for inspiring me to do better and greater things with building kits.

I'm really glad that you enjoyed the build, thanks so much for commenting! This kit has a lot of things I don't really like, and I mostly agree on the instructions being somewhat unclear in spots. I can answer the wiring question: for the fine looms and most of the individual wires I used .010 styrene round rod, and various other small sizes where appropriate. I could have used actual metallic wire such as copper, but this has a few problems with cementing and clean cutting (especially in the thicker bundles). The other main issue is that any paint that rubs and chips during construction will expose bright spots of shiny metal color beneath and I didn't want to deal with that, or potentially missing touch ups. That said, copper wire painted grey would work just fine. Styrene is also way expensive on a kit that goes this far. As for cutting the small parts, a lot of it is intuition but that comes from years of learning different techniques in mixed media. I have been through thousands of no. 11 blades and I am very deliberate. My videos (so far) don't really get into the how-to directions of what I do, but I plan to approach this in the future. The biggest reason for this is the scope of work I'd have to plan out becomes very complicated in filming builds like I do. However, I go by Ian RF on Facebook and I have more build information in model pages there such as Space Modeling. I'd be happy to share any tips or insights if you care to correspond.
