When I saw the Doors live, at the University of Michigan, on Oct 20th, 1967,they played the entire Light My Fire album from top to bottom, without a break. After the concert was over (it was homecoming for all of us letter winners) we didn't even see Jim and the band leave the stage. 10 or so minutes later, we asked ourselves " What the hell just happened ". The Doors mesmerized and hypnotized us for 10 minutes AFTER they had already gone. That, to me, is what The Doors did...to everyone. Rest in Peace, Mr.Jim Morrison. You were one of a kind. ❤

I was about to say they did the entire self titled album for that show because that was all the material they had up that point outside of a rendition of Gloria and a few others. But Strange Days had just come out in September of '67, so to see them do the entire 1st album top to bottom, they might not have ever done that anywhere else, you sir are lucky.

The "Things that areknown..." quote is Jim Morrison quoting William Blake. I became aDoors fan in 1971 when the LA Woman album wasreleased, I was 15. The Doors were "our" band they being from LA and so were my friends and I, grew up in Altadena and Pasadena CA. Overthe years I've read everything I can getmy hands on about the band and have combed everywhere for every bootleg and also all of Ray Manzarek's records. Being too young to have seen the band my best friend and I used to see Ray Manzarek every chance we could get. And saw Robbie Kreiger play the Whisky when he had the band Red Shift. But Ray was always our favorite, he carried the Doors torch and did it well. The last time I saw Ray was in 2010 in Sacramento and I was lucky enough to be able to chat with him for a bit. I'll be 66 in 8 days from this posting. To all of you fellow Doors fans, carry on and Peace!

Now that could've been the rumor that he dropped acid before it, or it could've been because Mick Jagger was watching, as they discussed beforehand how to use these bigger stages that bands were starting to play. Jagger basically learned what not to do from that show and I know alot of Doors fans that thought it was a boring show.

@wildcatter63 oh yeah dolenz had a great voice, Randy scouse git is in my book a prototype for punk. But we're talking live network TV, so that is where my comparison was made. But in terms of overall quality, and it's not a knock on the pre fab four, but the doors were something truly special. The Monkees we're better than they ever had a right to be, and there is droves of great material to mine, the doors however to this day inspire intellectual discussion

There are so many great bands from that period and I love to listen to them all from time to time but the Doors are something on a whole other level. It’s great that there is so much high quality video/audio of them and they will only grow in popularity as new generations discover how profoundly talented, raw, and thought provoking they were.

The Doors a one of few groups that never made a bad album. Some fans were unhappy with The Soft Parade finding the use of horns and jazz stylings uncharacteristic of the band but they were just trying to expand. It stands up when listening to it today.

Then you didn't read it close enough, Jim was a prophet, Second Son of Mary incarnate, I know this because his signing voice was mine and all the lyrics we wrote together have since come true, I have his same middle name, and same mole on the left side of my face and if you heard me sing in a studio you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, we are twin Sons of Mary hosting one body, Jim was reborn/reincarnated 1974 thus, this is his book, if you don't believe me read the lyrics to Shaman's Blues and listening to the recording where two distinct voices are heard
@MattPinard
@MattPinard 6 жыл бұрын
@Jacob Frank I agree with you Peace and Love, but lack of belief in Jim's true spiritual identity given to him from birth by St. Mary doesn't make that fact untrue and if you don't believe what I'm saying I've a photo of a veiled woman above the sun to show you:)

I think the entire album was underrated. I listened to the song “Easy Rider” and can’t help but think that it was perhaps written and recorded for the movie “Easy Rider” which came out later the same year as the album. I wonder if the movie producers didn’t use the song because of the Doors being black listed because of the Miami incident

I had never seen this performance. The Doors were amazing. I've been a fan since I first heard "Hello, I Love You" in 1968 (I was 9). It was the summer and I was at a local lake in Wisconsin. I remember hearing playing from a jukebox by the cafe. It's been over 52 years and I still see that little girl listening....

Sometimes I feel alone in this, but the Soft Parade is my favourite Doors album. I must have played it for one year straight. Nothing else. The orchestration and musicianship, plus what I believe is a stoned Morrison singing and ad-libbing.....I just LOVE it! Easily in my top 10 albums of all time, coming in around 6 or 7. These old clips are outstanding and thanks for sharing!

@Quintus Horatius Flaccus I know! Many...bigger Dooors fans have told me how wrong I was. Don't get me wrong, all their albums are great, especially the first one! You're not alnone, I love that awsome yet harshly treated album. I love the orchestration and don't consider it a downside but a feature which makes the album outstanding and unique in its atmosphere as it doesn't spoil anything to me, it suits the songs nicely, and sometimes even add some psychodelic vibe the simillar way it does in the Yellow Submarine LP by the Beatles. I can't understand why people demand the Doors to sound the same on each album. I enjoy the album for what it is.
