On 30th August 1980, with the Berlin Wall still very much in place, Barclay James Harvest performed a celebratory concert in front of the Reichstag in Berlin for a vast German audience, estimated at 250,000. Throughout the seventies Barclay James Harvest were one of the most popular acts in Germany and this concert was presented as a thank you to all their fans. Featuring tracks from the then soon to be released "Turn Of The Tide" album plus classics from across their career, this concert is a celebration of Barclay James Harvest at their very best and at the height of their career.

BJH were and will always be my favourite rock-band in my life. I had the privilege to listen to and watch them in Drammen’s Hall in Norway in the early eighties live. And I will never forget this night, feeling like soaring above my chair while listening to many of their fantastic songs, among others a free . I still enjoy all of their unbelievable great music many times. They have been drastically underestimated for several centuries in the international rank lists. I will never understand this actually. It must have been a misunderstood interpretation of really good music or what do you think?

So glad that I was around in the1970's and life was an adventure and we worked together on Merchant Navy vessels, for music of every kind, could help you chill, when your labour's were done for the day. It easy to see a poor boys blues when he's working everyday, we didn't know we were supposed to be unhappy. Meaningful work and when we could, get high. And well we didn't die! The Flying Angels mission to seamen would offer tracts and invite us to meet. But I wasn't ready to give up my narcissistic indulgent ways. But God knows the time and wooed this reprobate, and now I enjoy the grace of God, for He doesn't leave once you invite Him in. I was 29 in 1984, when I heard about sin being forgiven and the Saviour dying my death so I could begin to live and not be a slave to fear, for He was always there, and that became clear as I read the New Testament and other things like the Psalms and eventually began to pray for more confirmation and the relationship took off, when I, months later had began to go to church after Christmas - I didn't want to be a hypocrite. "Often times I'd wonder how it is that He could love me, despite the way I am." But He cannot deny Himself, and He's still got a plan. I can't remember who penned that line. His mercies are new every morning and He never slumbers or sleeps so "He's always there He won't ever let you go!" The benefit of the doubt will one day cease so make your peace and decrease so you don't eclipse Him. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, it can be too demanding! He says to us that all the rigours of life, will help to shape your view of Me for I am the One who through My death at Calvary, you can be set free, and the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth! Es gibt ein paar Lieder die sich damals unmittelbar in mein Gedächtnis eingeprägt haben, und wo ich heute noch weiß, in welchem Zimmer und aus welchem Radio ich sie zuerst gehört habe. Dieser Song gehört dazu. Hier auf der Live-Aufnahme klingen die Synthesizer allerdings anders als auf der Studioaufnahme. Für Soundtüftler: Mit dem Moog Opus3 und einem Delay konnte ich den Originalklang vorhin allerdings recht überzeugend nachbauen. Die oberen beiden Rechteck-Fußlagen der Organ-Abteilung mit mittlerer Filter-Resonanz und etwas Sägezahnwellen der Brass-Abteilung für unten drunter sind der Hauptbestandteil. Ein bisschen passende kurze Envelopes drüber und ein Delay mit leichtem Shuffle-Feeling (ist wirklich so😮) hinterher und los geht’s in G-Dur. Viel Spaß! Grüße aus dem Donnersbergkreis!

Arnaud CP Sorry to correct you but BJH split up into 2 entities years ago: John Lees' Barclay James Harvest and Barclay James Harvest featuring Les Holroyd. Sadly both Mel Pritchard and Wooly Wolstemholme has since died leaving only John Lees and Les Holroyd to continue the legacy of BJH albeit in separate bands.

I'd have to agree, this was at the apex of their career. Sadly, Woolly had already departed. "Turn of the Tide" was a disappointing outing marking the end of a string of great albums. More mediocrity followed. There were few bright spots afterwards. Ring of Changes and Welcome to the Show , come to mind...but album consistency waned. This really wasn't that unusual for 70s acts trying to 'hang on' in the 80s, but was certainly sad.
