Taking apart the NEW Penn Authority spinning reel!

Finally after multiple computer issues I was able to get this video made and uploaded. I hope you guys enjoy this video of me taking apart the Penn 2500HS Authority. This is the same reel we reeled underwater 2 weeks ago along with fishing it multiple times after. This reel didn't get any special treatment after and wasn't washed off at all during this period. I was pretty confident there wouldn't be any water inside the reel after I fished it a few time after. I hope you guys enjoyed this test and I will be doing more of these types of videos in the future.

I bought this reel for 5500 size and try it with the big kingfish, the video is in my video and short. This is a very smooth, strong and sturdy, very accurate drag setting and beauty reels, i really love it and now think to get another 6500 size.

@@thevernonposse YES I DID!! I caught a hammerhead shark, mako shark , the reel is 10/10! Soo smooth! Worth the money, one minor detail that I didn't like is that the drag noise is not that loud, the Penn Slammer's drag noise is louder and better, i do recommend buying the Authority.

I have watched a bunch of videos about taking reels apart amd reviews. But I have NEVER seen one that was as descriptive as yours. You made everything look so easy, and you were clean with the whole process. I was going to get the Penn Slammer III DX 4500, but I will save a little more and get the Penn Authority in 4500. Your video have swayed my decision on this reel. Was that a Kobalt tool. Can you tell me the name of it and model, so I can get one? Thanks for all

Hi there I just watched your video but I can't seem to find were you took the bail arm mechanism apart ,my authority 2500 stopped clicking back properly and closes untimely causing my line to break on casting ,,I wonder if you can advise? Thanks

I have the 5500 , been having issues with wind knots . Line hitting the first eye coming off the reel , very frustrating. Lost a few lures , shop took out a shim . Line lay got better , no knots.. but here in there still the Line hits that first eye. 30lb test braid , not sure if I should've went heavier on the line . I don't have as much Line on the spool as you , wondering if I need a little more on .

That first guide might be too close to the reel which will decrease casting distance and cause some line issues. I'd look into a different rod. I have a 5500 that packed with 30# braid and I've yet to get any knots

​@Mercuryverado200 ok thanks , my rod is a 10'6 saltX . I can't get my line lay nowhere close to straight like yours . I always get the hourglass in the middle look . I've taking off the line about 8x re doing it . Even changed the backing to 8lb mono for tighter lay before the braid . Can't get rid of the hourglass look to save my life lol . Tried all 3 shims and even without a shim .

@General GP I would take it somewhere to have checked out. It shouldn't be doing that. I have 3 Authorities with perfect line lay. 2500,2500HS and 5500. Are you hand spooling it ? Maybe you need to have someone put it on with a line machine

When I purchased it the shop used the machine , that's when I ran into the knots issue I'm guessing due to the uneven line lay and the chim it came with installed . When they took out that shim no knots but line lash here n here . So I did it my self about 7x same outcome. My Slammer 3 I've done my self countless times, line lay is beautiful lol straight just like yours . I'll take off the line and take it to a shop see if they can correct it . Nice video how much bigger is this reel from a vr 75 staal. I jig down the beach for snook don’t want something to heavy .

It's honestly not that heavy. I'd say the 3500 is about the size of a VR75

I'm currently between this in 4500 vs the Gosa in 6000. Granted different price ranges, I'm stuck in whether the price difference is worth it. I don't like that the slammer doesn't have a sealed line roller bearing.

All 3 of those reels are solid choices. It comes down to how bad you are on your gear and what you want to spend. Gosa and Slammer go head to head. Both solid choices if you want to keep it below $300. If you're wanting a reel that can do just about anything, go with the Authority. I'm honestly impressed on how well this reel has handled everything I've thrown at it

@@shockedinawe I have a few Slammer IV and Slammer IV DX and the line rollers have been fine even after getting sprayed multiple times. I'd definitely consider giving them a chance even without that feature

Once these hit the 1yr mark I'll let you know. I remember my VR150 drag system not doing well after 1yr of use. I feel like this Duradrag will be fine but I want to keep it fair between the 2 reels.

Not at all. This reel is butter smooth when you fish it. The more I've fished it the smoother it has gotten. Feels nothing like a Staal.

I felt a Van staal next to this one at a local tackle shop. The Authority is WAAAAY smoother than a Van Staal out of the box. I also felt this next to a Van Staal that way used for a year, as they tend to get more smooth with use. The Authority still felt smoother than the used one. Hopefully that clarifies somethings. I'm a Shimano guy, but this will be my next reel.

Yeah, maybe on the outside of the reel. No water got inside the reel. That's the whole point of the video

@@Jessewrightfishing yesterday i open my slammer 3 3500 after 2 years of sea fishing, and on the same part it was covered with salt, nothing inside the reel. Just got a slammer 4 3500 as authority is quite expensive here in uk.

@Razvan R Slammer does a good job keeping water out of the reel with the IPX seals. I'd be kinda nervous to reel my Slammers underwater, though. I'm glad yours are holding up well.

I had to clean and grease my battle 2 a few times. But wouldn't dare to do it with this one, lol. No reason to take it a part since it is fully sealed and risk damaging the the seal other than for the purpose of a video.

I damaged the seal on my other 2500. Inexpensive part and fixed it very easily. Whole reason for this video was to show that no water got inside the reel after purposely dunking it and reeling it underwater.

Just for those who want to pay more to say they have the best. And don't have Saltiga, Stella or Van Staal money. 😂 It's certainly not worth the asking price over the Slammer.

I've fished them side by side. Authority is built better and feels better than a slammer. I'm pretty sure if someone is going to drop $500 on a reel, they can afford the other reels you listed just fine.
