You could literally fight any style at a tournament like this. Karate, muay thai, Taekwondo, doesnt matter, as long as you stick to the rules, which is of course a karate ruleset. So it makes sense that you would use karate or something similar like Taekwondo
@SwordTune3 жыл бұрын
I heard you can make up katas at karate tournaments. The performance side of karate is so unregulated that, ironically, it's completely pointless to martial arts.
@lucjeb92543 жыл бұрын
@@SwordTune well, you could also make up a fighting style in MMA. theres no limitation to what you are allowed to use, only the rules. Like in Karate tournaments your not allowed to make contact with the opponents face for example. so if a Boxer enters a Karate tournament hes screwed. Hes basically only allowed to dodge and throw body shots. The lack of kicking would be his end. Vice versa if a Karate practioner enters a boxing match. Sure they di have strikes, but since kicking is illegal the boxer would make short work. This is why you usually only see Karate fighter in karate tournaments and the same goes for other Martial arts. There are similar ones though. Taekwondo is really similar to karate, which is why you can see taekwondo moves in the All Valley. Crescent kick, Spinning Crescent kick, Tornado kick and a few other moves i could recognize arent used in Karate at all (generaly speaking)

And everyone goes through stages in their life. This show is about finding balance and it’s so smartly written. It also shows it doesn’t necessarily matter where you start in life, but more so how you handle it. You can start out in a rich house that’s poor in personal values and end up as a wreck. Or you can start in a poor apartment with supportive role models and good values that help you succeed at life and ultimately build wealth. Good and bad can be found anywhere. And the bad can creep back in when you don’t expect it to, like with Danny not being able to let go of his resentments, or Johnny once he realizes he didn’t teach his students to have honor. The show does a great job of illustrating how different people deal with their problems. Some go too far and remain out of balance (Hawk) and others seem to get closer and closer to equilibrium as the show goes on. (Robby/Miguel). But it’s a delicate thing, and we can easily step out of balance with our lives (Danny/Robby). This show is wonderfully written and a joy to experience.

I'm sorry but I kinda disagree about it being Miguel's fault. Yes, he shouldn't have used violence but had Sam bothered to explain the situation about her dad and Cobra Kai to him earlier, none of those things would have happened. I feel Miquel would have been reasonable and could have been patient to meet her family for her sake. But she just started lying and making excuses, causing him to become insecure about their relationship and who Robby was to her.
@joshuad35073 жыл бұрын
I mean her fault is lying yes but it is more of dumb minor mistakes. She was just worried about her Dad rejecting Miguel from being near her, drama drama drama. Miguel though kind of blew up without even letting her explain and never cooled off even after sobering up. She just told dumb lies, but he got irrational and aggresive and then doubled down instead of reflecting.

Honestly this one is a real “suspension of reality” moment for me. Miguel did absolutely nothing wrong (during the match, the arm pull was a jerk move). If your opponent is visibly favoring an injury it completely makes sense to go after it. This is a combat sport. It’s the job of the *ref* to stop the fight if someone is too injured to defend themselves. Alternatively it’s the job of the injured fighter’s coach to pull them out. A lot of fighters are going to say “no let me keep going” but that doesn’t mean the coach should let them.

At this level of competition (high school kids), coaches and sensei's are still trying to teach their pupils sportsmanship. This isn't pro-level sports. You don't want to permanently injure or maim other people just to win. Even most professional athletes don't want to permanently harm their opponents. There are many examples in pro sports, even UFC, of pro athletes showing restraint and care for their opponents, trying to avoid exploiting the weaknesses that could permanently injure that person. Yes, there are exceptions, but they are rare and generally make the offending athlete out to be the bad guy. It's obvious to me how many of you have probably never played organized sports because so many of you think winning at any cost is all that matters and you don't grasp how badly that kind of lesson messed up Johnny's life (and how he is trying to avoid making the same mistake with Miguel and his other students)....

They didn't stop the fight in the tournament because yes what Miguel did was messed up, it was a legal move that is why he didn't lose a point when he hit Robbie shoulder during the fight. Daniel and Johnny should have stop the fight there was no reason for Robbie to fight after Hawk hurt his shoulder.
@whimsofmim3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It was on the adults to be reasonable. Johnny should have forfeited the match (giving Robbie the win) as a lesson to his dojo that winning via fighting dirty is not winning at all. If he didn't forfeit, Daniel should have thrown in the towel to avoid further injury to Robbie, and to teach Robbie that there are more important things than winning (like your health and well being). Wouldn't have made for good drama and all of next season's conflicts though, so we get what we got.

I don't feel bad for the Olympic karate guy who knocked his opponent out and got disqualified. They both agreed to that ruleset which is far removed from actual combat sports, you don't get points for coolness because you disobeyed the rules, nor can you complain the sport is too soft when you only ever trained and competed in it. If the disqualified guy wanted a real fight, he would've chosen a sport with real fighting, instead he relied on the fact the other guy followed the rules to not get himself hurt when he broke them.

@@aydinvirani1528 too bad this wasn't a street fight, but rather, is a youth karate tournament. Cheap shots like what Hawk did between rounds (when Robbie's back was turned) and Miguel pulling Robbie's arm when he offered him his right hand to help him up would be a problem in a real world youth sports competition. There is still an emphasis on teaching young athletes sportmanship at that level and most coaches at that level do care that their players conduct themselves with class. Most of the youth sport coaches out there would probably bench or berate one of their players if they pulled the kind of chickenshit crap Hawk and Miguel did. Hell, even at the higher levels it would probably happen. Nick Saban, one of the best coaches in college football, goes ballistic when his players lose their cool and commit personal fouls/etc. Some coaches realizes they aren't just there to win, but are there to help turn the athletes that play under them into good men too.

bro going after someone’s injury in a tournament like this is completely valid. hawk was in the wrong in this case but miguel isnt, because of course in a combat sport hes gonna go after his opponent’s injury
