I bought the album when I was 16 (LP) 40 years later...and I'm 56 now. My father said at the time: Sounds like a cat crying. )) But I was aware then, just as I am now, that these musicians are geniuses in their field. ★★★★★

Yep, I was 17 when I bought it, saw them at L’Amour and the Beacon Theatre in NYC when they were touring for this album. Lemmy and Motörhead were complete douche bags for yanking the King offstage, as they knew it would not be easy to follow them, much like when Metallica opened for GnR, GnR knew they were in trouble.

If you're talking about Speed Metal, Progressive Metal or Doom/Death Metal, this album is essential. Mercyful Fate were at their peak on the record. Timi's bass playing is off the hook, the dual guitars are masterful, the drumming is top-notch and King's vocals are insanely good. Sadly, no one makes records like this anymore. Thankfully we have this masterpiece to enjoy for years to come. RIP Timi

Mercyful Fate - ''Don't Break the Oath'' - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Don't Break the Oath MercyfulFateDBTO.jpg Studio album by Mercyful Fate Released 7 September 1984 Recorded May 1984 Studio Easy Sound Recording, Copenhagen, Denmark Genre Heavy metal Length 47:30 Label Roadrunner Producer Henrik Lund Don't Break the Oath is the second studio album by Danish heavy metal band Mercyful Fate, released in 1984. The style Mercyful Fate employed on ''Don't Break the Oath'' resembled a mixture of heavy metal with progressive elements, lyrically preoccupied with Satan and the occult and distinguished by King Diamond's theatrical falsetto vocals. Although very influential to future black metal bands due to its lyrical content, the music itself is more reminiscent of traditional heavy metal. The album was remastered and subsequently re-issued on Roadrunner Records in 1997. This reissue came with the bonus track "Death Kiss (Demo)", which would eventually evolve into the album's lead-off track, "A Dangerous Meeting". Metal Rules named this the greatest extreme metal album of all time. Track listing All lyrics are written by King Diamond. Side one No. Title Music Length 1. This was my first taste of MF...or so I thought...this cassette I bought brand new in 1989 actually had Slayer's Hell Awaits album on it somehow. I'd never heard Slayer yet at that time either so I went a while thinking I was listening to MF when I was actually hearing Slayer. Needless to say I discovered 2 bands in 1 and love them both, thank you Metal Blade!
